LS Vtec vs Type R

LS Vtec vs Type R
Hey
My little brother is going LSVtec in his '90 LS integra, i am not too familiar with the swap but he is getting mild internals too. I have a 1996 LS and was thinking of swaping a JDM Type R engine into it, or going LSVtec, but want to know what would be more better and RELIABLE to swap into my car.

Re: LS Vtec vs Type R (Glocker)
I would rather save the money and go with an LS vtec, sell your LS head and buy a B16 head and get an LS vtec conversion kit and slap it on.

2 opposite answers. Well which will make more power, the LS Vtec? i heard if you build em you can get like 200 whp. But i think the Type R will be more reliable.

why dont you do a search, this is asked almost every hour of every freaking day. The search function is located in the upper right hand corner of this webpage, and you can even do archived searches for up to like 5 years back. I'll even be nice enough to summarize your results, the lsvtec should make slighly more hp and a noticeably larger amount of torque, as far as reliability, the ls vtec is as reliable as it is built, whereas the type r motor was made factory from honda. I've had my lsvtec for around 15,000 kms and i have had no problems or regrets.

my friends ls/v has about 100,000 miles on it and still runs as strong as mine with about 9,000 miles.
is that pretty reliable?

I'll tell you this much as a 16B owner. If you want gobs of power I'd honestly go with an LSvtec. Bear in mind that you run the risk of having problems though. The advantage of an R motor is that its engineered from the factory to rev and last a LONG time. Its really your choice, but on a daily driver I would say to go wtih the R motor.

Re: (seoul-child)
if you are going to rebuild the motor.. it wont matter since you are basically tearing apart a factory build.. so in that case, i say both motors are reliable equally to say... 8000k rpm.. after that.. there are other issues you will have to research

Re: (seoul-child)
well, since you obviously (dont take offence) dont know how to build a motor, it would be wise to go with an oem reliabilty. ls-v can be built well, but most of the time is slapped together by some lame shop or ghettofabulous "honda tuner". but if you know someone who can build an engine properly, i'd say go with ls vtec. its cheap, reliable (as long as its done right), and has the potential to make more power than any stock ITR. personally i love the b16, which is honda's red headed step child. but if shown attention it will really shine.

I was thinking of just waiting for my brothers to get his finished too see what kind of power he makes. He is getting a lot of internals done too, is that necessary? or can i just "slap on a b16 head with a oil line kit" and headstuds? If i do that i will need a tranny, GSR, b16, or the LSD Type R (expensive)?

Re: (nitroracer)
The b18c1/5 is probably the best motor honda ever made hands down... go with the Type R if you had the money. Anybody with an LS/Vtec would trade it for an ITR motor without blinking. But I guess if you have that kinda money you might as well go with a k20.
