Re: ls-vtec vs b18c1
tru.
can you explain more? which one is the bicycle? walking?
if the ls/vtec was built correctly it is stronger than the gsr. but then again the tranny plays a big role also. if both motor used the same tranny then the ls/vtec would be the better choice, given that it was build correctly...

I had an LS/vtec[174hp to the wheels] on a b16 tanny with a 6 puck and phantom grip....and it was MEAN!
...but bad for road trips.....I blew the motor and I am building a new one in hopes of putting 200+ to the ground.
Short gears FTW!

Yea bra, everyones going to give you the same answer its that silly of a question.
On the other hand, like hmoobhero said if its a LS/V with with a few common internal upgrades I'd pic LS anyday.

Re: ls-vtec vs b18c1
i drive an ls and was thinking of going vtec but i summed up the cost and its going to cost just as much as a full gsr and tranny swap i can get from a local shop. i just wanted some input and votes on whats best for the money and it seems that i was pretty right on behalf of the gsr swap having more votes. thanks guys, i appreciate it

Re: ls-vtec vs b18c1
yea go with a gsr over a LS vtec simple because better cams, better tranny, and by the time you buy to have a LS vtec put together it'll cost more.

^Well prices vary so much it kinda depends.
My setup on the drawing board right now for my road racing LS/V is only $2100, built and machined.
Thats not including the gearbox but I can have one pulled locally for only $300. Its all about who you know and where you shop at.

It's all in the build not the design. The whole r/s ratio argument was thrown out the window years ago
My home built lsv is going on like 2 years and 3k miles with a 9100 rev limit and 203whp now. And you better believe it sees 9k multiple times everytime I drive it. First motor I ever assembled to boot.

Re: ls-vtec vs b18c1
+1 GSR for higher compression and better transmission
the ls/vtec also depends on which VTEC head as they all have different cams.
Plus youll ger more respect for being able to afford a GSR rather than putting together a LS VTEC

Re: ls-vtec vs b18c1
Really? My hats off to anyone who can do a build/rebuild LS VTEC or not, rather then just performing a simple swap which can be afforded by anyone who can save a little money or with other monitary assistance.

Re: ls-vtec vs b18c1
i agree it takes alot more knowledge and understanding to put together a reliable ls/v i have one sitting right next to box in the shop im at, you need to know what to use so it wont be over kill or underkill. as for the trans it depends on what your reference is drag, street, strip. i suggest b16 for drag as it has shorter gearing better for accel, ls for street gotta need that long fifth for nice pulls on high ways or so

Re: ls-vtec vs b18c1
Heres where you go wrong. your poll says Stock vs Stock. then you bring up the **** about a built LS-V. thats not stock. and an LS-V is not "stock" either. therefore your entire thread is off base. The LS trans is a shitty gear ratio for NA. I'd rather have a complete B16A swap than a 1.8 with an LS trans.
And a built GSR will be stronger than a built LS due to the stock integrated crank girdle, and the block has more webbing. IMO.
