You have to use the rods because there is no oil squirter's in a ls block to cool down the pistons... but i would go with type r pistons.

so what do the rods and squirters have to do with each other?

double , a bit more compression than itr but less than ctr pistons; keep it simple for less headaches.

x3 with the p30's if you can get them, if not the pr3's/itrs are not much less. as for the gsr rods / pistons ? you must use the proper crank and rod combo- pistons are interchangable as you know. you can put a gsr crank and rods in a ls or vice versa.

What he means is that since the ls block doesn't have oil squirters like a gsr block, he would have to use the ls rods cause they have oil channels that allow oil to cool down the pistons.
Also to the OP, do some research on the crank stroke and rod lengths of both ls and gsr setups, then decide on if it would be wise to use an ls crank and gsr rods.
