Default New Project: Teggy ONTO SALVATION

This is alex's (HT member alex_sir) a 1990 Acura Integra LS POS (Project Onto Salvation)

Alex picked her up for a mesely 200 bucks from a friend.
Today we attempted to take out the block (b18a1) for restoration.

Engine Shot with removed head (The head was removed by previous owner for no reason)

The condition the block is.

Thats arturo (HT member Yuyo_06) removing bolts.

alex_sir is on the far side removing some more bolts

Ahh yeah after some hack jobs attempts we manage to take some motor mounts off and we REALIZED we need a tool set.

Picture of her butt.

This is the way we left it tonight and we ran into some problems.

Problems:
The right motor mount wont come off.
Tranny is stock to block.
Any suggestions and comments would be appreciated.

Goals:
200 HP lsvtec build all motor using all OEM parts.

do you have a helms?
it would be best to buy one before further continuing on.
Also, you need to invest in a breaker bar and a set of deep metric sockets

did you remove all the bolts/brace on the tranny yet? if so there are some dowel pins which helps locate the tranny to the block. take a big hammer and a block of wood and place it on the tranny and hammer away

OMG you need to A LOT more research. Helms is the name of the company that makes repair manuals that tell you step by step how to do specific jobs on cars.

Now if you don't know where/what the axles are, thats scary. You have to remove the axles (the 2 things that turn each wheel) from the tranny, and remove the half-shaft from the tranny and unbolt it from the motor too. Also you have to remove the shift linkage from the tranny. If you do a search you can find step by step instructions, but I suggest you really read more before you mess something up.

you need to jack the front end up. put the car on blocks. take off the front wheels. take off the brake calipers, dics, pretty much take apart the whole front end. the axle is the piece that goes from the wheel hub to the tranny. there are 2 of them. one on each side. they make the wheels turn. you can see them from under the car. once you get the car lifted up, and the wheels, and have the front end taken apart, get a pry bar and pry between the tranny housing and the axle and it will pop out(it might take some muscle to pop them out). take both of them out.

Go to autozone. Ask them for the Haynes Manual for 90-93 Integras. $16.00. Take to cash register, and purchase. Then take it home and start reading. It is VERY Simple to understand. I would buy that, and also go to http://www.hondahookup.com and download the manual for 90-93 Honda Integra (same as Acura Integra). but it is nice to have the Haynes manual so you can take it outside being as it is a book and the Offical manual you download from hondahookup is 1300 pages. But has everything covered in detail. Good luck, and take more pictures.

yes.. read and do more research. you really dont have a clue as to what you are doing. First know your way around a car, then know how to read the book and follow directions.

It will be much easier for you.

I thought you were asking about the rust, and I was gonna say oh hell no...

Once you get the block out and torn down for a rebuild, it will be easy to clean out the water jackets, or have a machine shop just do a hot tank.

hahhahaha when i read that i was reading it as if you were saying it in a sarcastic tone!

you pretty boys..working on cars with your Gunit hats and silver bracelets... tsk tsk tsk

#1. your *** is going to get dirty. wear appropriate clothes and gloves
#2. why in gods name do you not own a tool set?
#3. throw that block hard and far into the garbage. start with a different one. same goes for that useless transmission.

if you are going to use the block, take it to a machine shop and have it hot tanked and honed, and probably even bored out.

Yah, if i were you i would definitely purchase a nice toolset aka craftsman/snapon/matco. If you cant afford it then sell those overpriced clothes and get some decent clothes from kohls. You can find a good craftsman socket/ratchet/extension set from sears at under 150 bucks.

After you get some good tools instead of those walmart ones your using, i would get a haynes manual as stated. I have one now and i got it when i was 17 (when i bought my teg) and it is so easy to follow and understand. It is a must have when i buy any car. Extremely helpful.

I would also invest in some mechanics gloves since you will probably cut the **** out of your hands sooner or later.

Good luck with it. Looks like fun.

EDIT: I would also get a notebook and pen so that you can jot down how things came apart and draw diagrams that arent in the manuals. Will save you a lot of time, frustration, cussing, anger, forcing something and ruining it.

btw, that rebar, not a good idea to pry it against the radiator support.

also, you need a nice big hammer to remove the axles. do not pry at them

there is a little tab on the lower control arm where the ball joint is, give that a good couple of smacks and the ball joint will pop outta the control arm and you'll be able to get the axle free.

If i were you, i would not disassemble the engine till you have the helms/haynes manual in your hands. there are specific sequences when working on the engine and doing the sequence wrong will screw something up

I say STOP EVERYTHING! till you read over a manual and figure out what your going..my first time taking out a motor on my own when i was like 15 or so i made a step sheet..on what to do first and in order etc.

-Put the car on jack stands
-pull off wheels
-Drain fluids (Oil and Coolant)
-Remove anything in the way ex: Radiator, AC, etc.
-Unplug wires and vacuum hoses, speedomoter cable connected to the trans fuel line etc.
-Unbolt the hub's and the knuckle under the LCA it will then be able to swing out and tap the axles out..
-Slide the axles out and tap the shift linkage pin out and remove the linkage.
-Set the cherry picker up and strap it to the motor and support it a little..unbolt the mounts..theres 4 in total..Tranny mount, mount in the back, pass side, and drivers side.
-Vuala! you can now take the motor out..have a friend or two help you out..someone lifting the motor with the picker..and one ot two guiding it out and checking to see if anythings caught..

I could have sworn the list looked alot longer when i made it out 5 or so years ago.

Invest in a set of craftsman tools..They are fairly cheap..work really good and if you ever so happen to break them..they have a lifetime warranty on replacing tools..Pick up a breaker bar and a 1/2 inch ratchet and sockets while your at it if it doesn't come in your tool set!
