d15b vtec cam in d16z6 head
I've search for a long time and can't find any more info on this. A long time ago I came across a d15b vtec cam. I have a d16z6 and decided to put the cam in. Well something isn't right with the timing. I have a crankshaft pulley which has the timing marks that looks like this. lll ll. The marks are colored where the center notch between the 3 notches is red. The white mark is the far right of the 2 notches. I tried lining up the white notch to the gunsight on the cover closer on the block. The the up on the cam and the back plastic marks are lined up and the timing is off somehow. Car idles not so well and it just doesn't perform better. Everything else on the car is completely stock. Help

Time to bust out the degree wheel . . .
If you don't have a kit, the basic ones are around $100 from summit/jegs/wherever.
I've never understood the mantra of "when using a (vtec cam) use (y8/a6/z6) cam gear and then add (amount) for milling".
If you degree it, then you'll know for sure instead of relying on some guy's post about mix and matching cam gears.
The easiest thing is to check if the lobes look the same in relation to the notch for the key (aligns the cam gear). If the lobes look close in relation to your z6 cam then you'll definitely need a wheel. You'll have to mix and match cam gears if you're off by 20-30 degrees or run an adjustable and then you'll still need a wheel.
If/when you get a wheel I would start by installing the intake centerline of the d15b cam to the same as your z6 cam was. Personally, I've never messed with a d15b cam in a z6 so I don't have an easy answer for you.
