Re: Can't time B20Z2 motor
I dont see any rainbowing or discoloration. Id be very curious to see the lower end bearings. Id find it hard to believe that you could over torque those tiny cam cap bolts enough to do that without snapping them. I accidentally broke one many years ago tq wrench at 18 ftlbs

Re: Can't time B20Z2 motor
Not to keep this post going forever, but my curiosity and thirst for knowledge has me asking a couple more questions. If any one has the answers I'd appreciate it.
I took measurements of the intake cam lobes and the diameter at the ends. The lobe spec when new is 33.71 (forgot 3rd decimal place), but I can’t find any info on the service limits of the cams, any ideas? Mine range from 33.09 to 33.21 mm. Seems to me 0.6mm is big deal? I can’t find any values for what the end diameters should be either, is there a spec on that? But I do find that the seal isn’t really that snug on the cam and I’m able to move it diagonally across the cam with very little effort (fits snugly into outer surface of opening though). I don’t have any V blocks or gages to measure the runout on the cam.

Re: Can't time B20Z2 motor
I'm with you guys, this motor has seen some kind of abuse and I'm afraid of the bottom end now. I found a replacement with 148k on it for $850+$150 shipping from a local and reputable recycler. That may be my next move.

Yes, .6 mm between lobes that are supposed to be the same is a alot. I don't think there really is a service limit on camshafts. Not that Ive ever seen. If it wears out, its trash. The seal is most likely loose cause the cam is worn so bad on every part that it touches. Cam is trash. Head is trash. Bottom end is also most likely not in great condition. Metal contamination.

Re: Can't time B20Z2 motor
You guys have been a great help, thanks! I am looking at the JDM full motor option. I understand I'll have to deal with the lack of crank position sensor (more research). My wife is not too happy with me putting more $ into this CRV. But she didn't complain much when I got 297,000 miles and 19 years out of my '93 Civic (bought new) with almost nothing but routine maintance, and then traded it in for $500 towards her Accord.
