Breather Setup on a B18a1 Block (LS/VTEC)
Alright so my ls/vtec (B18a1 block, ITR Head) needs a better external breather setup. I've been looking around and read up about Endyn's kit and see that it is just a Moroso can that has been modified.
Here is my question: On the B18a1 block, there is just one port where the stock breather box goes into the block and the Endyn kit has places for 2.
What should I do for my setup?
I was thinking to buy a Moroso breather tank, have two 3/8" fitting installed at the top of the tank, and then put a freeze plug with a 3/8" hose fitting built into it then tap it into the big hole where the stock breather box goes. Run a line from the block to the breather tank, run a line from the valve cover breather to the breather tank, and then have a hose fitting at the bottom of the breather tank with a 3/8" fitting for the oil drain back with a T fitting connection the drain back line to the main line running from the back of the block.
Does that sound right?
What about the small fitting that is on the back of the block that the stock breather box attaches to with a 90 degree rubber hose?

i dont know if it applies to all blocks, but there should be two large freeze plugs on the back of the block. you can remove them and install 1 of these in each
they are oil cooler ports off a prelude, you can then run them off the ports to the catch can, but you need to mount the can high and set up a drain back.
you could probably pick between the valve cover and block venting...i have my vc vented but i think im gonna do the block also just for ***** and giggles.
were you having oil pan gasket issues right?

Re: Breather Setup on a B18a1 Block (LS/VTEC)
I've got an A1 block. I bought an LHT kit which included the hardware(Prelude nipples, hoses, washers, clamps, freeze plug, etc) and is installed using the block ports.
I took the OEM box out, tapped the freeze plug into place which now allows more access to get a ratchet in to remove my oilpressure adapter from underneath the car without taking the intake off when needed for changing the adapters O-ring.
I removed the oem charcoal canister, and bought an aluminium bracket from HomeDepot that features a 90 degree bend as shown
I unbolted the plate that seats the battery, drilled 2-3 holes in the side of the plate and the bracket which I cut roughly 12" in length. I drilled smaller mount holes for the catchcan in the bracket, then lastly I tapped the bottom spout of the catchcan drain with a 1/8 NPT tap and plugged it so I can periodically drain oil from it, although I've checked it a few times in the last few months and no oil so I guess the drain back is working well since its mounted higher then the block. Walla...

You can also just use a freeze plug. Not as snazzy, but gets the job done with a smige of permantex.
Edit: Wait, are you reffering to the spout on the bottom of the firewall that the hoses originally connected to running to the charcoal canister?

no, sorry i used a wrong term. i meant the hole for the black box on the block.
i wasnt sure if there was anything else readily available that size.

thanks Killer! I don't know what I was thinking, but for some odd reason I thought the two ports were coolant ports. I'm definitely going to order 2 of those plugs and get the Moroso breather tank. That solves all my problems.
And yes, I'm having leaking oil pan, rear main seal, and front main seal gasket issues. I've narrowed it down to too much crankcase pressure because it only leaks when the motor is in VTEC for long periods like when I am doing track days.

its something rediculous in the 30mm hex range i think? all i remember is i had to go buy a new set of hex sokets from sears to have the right size...then return it of course.

sorry let me clearify....the stock box has the pcv hose going into it and another hose going into the block...do you block off the nipple on the back of the block where the 90degree angle hose go?

No you just run a line for that spot too. Its even better flow and its in a better spot for removing the denser air inside. Its GOOD KEEP IT.

Re: Breather Setup on a B18a1 Block (LS/VTEC)
Since I'm only running a N/A b18b and I feel like fabricating something, I wanted to cancel the original pcv port coming out of the VC and make 2 large fittings with two small breather filter at the back. I know the oil wont drain back into the block but would this help at all or I'm I just doing it for fun?
Would it be more effective if I ran 2 lines from the VC, into a catch can with a breather filter with no drain back or would it make no difference with my 145 whp.
thanks!
