best base for all motor build
okay so i currently have a b20vtec and really enjoy it but lately I've been thinking about starting over fresh. I was thinking an all out na build, but then i wasn't sure which direction to go. what would be my best "base" to start with. would i be best off with a gsr, itr, b20v lsv? in the end i guess I'm asking what would make the most power once its fully built. any input is greatly appreciated thank you.

okay then why don't i be a little more specific. lets say engine + built head (cams, intake mani, tb, port and polish, valve springs and retainers and header) as well as a mild block build (rods, bearings, pistons, rod bolts)
or we could go a different direction and say including motor (don't worry about tranny) my budget would be about 6-7k. yes i do actually have this money and am seriously thinking about starting over

IMO your best bet would be to go with anything > 2L. A 2.2L+ block is a good place to start. Anything smaller takes more money to make real tq/hp. If you already have a B20 block you might want to start from there. Go bigger with some sleeves, pistons and some good head work. It won't take long to spend $7k if you are serious about your build. Everything will need upgrading, intake, head, block & exhaust.

Re: best base for all motor build
K-series is the best but to do it right it might cost a little more then 7k I think it cost at least 6k to just get motor and swap everthing in maybe 7k then to build it.... better sell that b20 get a little more money lol but for the money either build ur current one or get a b18cr especially for road racing better balance....imo

whats the HP goal and decide from there.
Why spend $xxxx if its only going to net you under the power goal ur looking for?
I mean, you can go with high compression, but what fuel is going to used? E85? 91? 93?
your choice of fuel needs to added in to whatever u decide to build.
Looks like you need more planning before adding parts to your cart.

i've seen complete k-swaps going for 5-6k. you just have to be patient and search around. plus you could sell your b20vtec swap. oh, and it'd be a much better starting foundation then any b-series motor you can think of while making built b power out of the box.

4 cylinder... K24 is the honda engine that has the most all motor potential to date. This has been proven. Look at all the fastest all motor Hondas. K series is champion. H2B is cheaper in a way but if you're serious its gonna be completely custom and just as expensive.

$7G budget and you're doing it all yourself? Or paying a shop? A big difference between the 2.
What car is it going into?
Can't beat a K24 for all motor HP, it's just if the budget will allow it. Otherwise take what you have and build another bottom end for it.

Re: best base for all motor build
I'm doing it all myself and with a buddy of mine (who is a mechanic) . My build will be in a 99 civic hatch. If I can find a k swap for 3500-4k I'd be all over it for sure. I'm not. Huge fan of the h22 I've heard lots of problems. With my current set up I've got a gsr lsd tranny and I love it. So if I stay bseries ill keep that for sure and swap the engine depending on what decide to do. I'm still all ears

Re: best base for all motor build
There is a guy I know that built a k24 fro erls motors with a stroker kit and some kelford drop and go cams. He spent US$ 7,800.00 built the motor himself. As I remenber correct he was at 2.6 liters. He told me that he decided to invest in displacement instead of strong cams, he used a drop in cam, didnīt invest in valvetrain and chain tensioner. (Stock valvetrain). If I remenber correctly he was hitting 322whp with the setup. I will try to get a hold of him to post here.
