I'll try to post pics of the build when ever I get a chance right now i have the block and crank in the machine shop getting worked on so hopefully i can get some pics? Hoping to hit 13's on a 96 Civic Ex Coupe.

What do you guys think?

Update some pics what the motor look like for now....

Updates! Got the block back from the machine shop had the block decked so it would be straight for the head. The machine shop took off .007 thousandth of an inch looks better and give me a piece of mind. Haven't had a chance to work on it much since i'm work every single day. Going to pick up an engine stand from work and set up the block so I can clean it and prep it to spray it down with some aluminum paint and work on the honing. Still waiting on parts to come in this week. Ordered some ACL bearing standard size i'll be platiguaging the clearances to see if they're right within specs. Also waiting on my YCP ITR Spec pistons so i can send them to the machine shop to get the wrist pin pressed into the B20Z rods. ARP main bolts and rod bolts also coming in sometime this week and OEM Honda gsr water pump/tensioner/oil pump just to get a few things so i can get started assembling. Still trying to source a head and tranny. The guy with the tranny flaked on me so I have to find one elsewhere.

If you have a b16 header it may not fit on your B20 block. If I were you I would check that before you get to the end of your build.

Well finally dropped in the motor on saturday fired up first try, everything physically is good no oil leaks good oil pressure no check engine light. The only thing i'm having trouble with is getting the timing correct. I drove the car around the block and it's just really boggish from a take off from a dead stop once i get to 2.5k rpm it feels really strong from there on up. I used the timing light to get the timing set and right now on the distributor i'm fully advanced all the way and i'm pretty sure by the ways its acting that my timing is still retarded. Any suggestions?

yeah i'm going to check that out today see what the deal is probably take the timing belt align everything all over again than put it together and give it another try. Any one else? another thing is that it's runs a bit hotter just over the half way mark right before the fan kicks in than it drop back down.

Does anybody know what is the stock fuel pressure setting on a Honda and also what is the stock injector flow rate for a stock GSR setup?

I am doing the same build but with a GSR head instead of a B16... and want to know what are the limits of the stock fuel system so I can calculate if I need aftermarket setup...

Looking good by the way...

Thanks...

Finally got the timing right after taking off the timing belt and pulley off for more than 6 hours the car runs....i'm definately going to upgrade to different cam gears stupid blox cam gears...the timing marks are off by a whole tooth! So finally have it running now i'm just breaking it in before I go get it tuned. Car is definately a night and day difference from a basic b-series swap....this motor is a beast! Power all over the rpm range....

so i am assuming the bottom-end is not fully balanced with the rotating assembly i.e. pistons, rods, flywheel, pressure plate and crank pulley. correct me if i m wrong.

I have a similar set up, let me know what kind of numbers you get after you go to the dyno.
Mine has been running kinda hot too, need to figure out why...hits 210 once in a while on long highway drives

183 whp, 142 tq

1990 Civic Hatch
B20Z2
Endyn Breather Kit
11.7:1 RS Machines
68mm TB, Blox Manifold, Hondata Heat Shield Gasket
Password JDM Whale ***** CAI
DC 4-1
B16A Head Stock (PR3) decked, cleaned, new LMA's and seals etc...
440cc dsm injectors
skunk 2 gears
S300 ecu
Tanabe Medallion Touring Exhaust, Magnaflow Cat (costed me some power on the dyno, but the car is pretty quiet and not smelly)
and all the necessary LSVTEC stuff on bam bam's list, went with the golden eagle stuff

PS make sure you get a bottom timing cover before you get tuned, so they can set your timing with a timing light, my cover was missing at the time
so they were scared to make my timing too aggressive. they had to set it up a little more conservatively

Nice numbers man i bet with a little more tuning they can probably make ur torque curve much more flatter... Well it's been running really good. I actually do have the bottom timing cover on I have the timing set at 16degrees BTDC took me forever to finally get it set due to the problem i had with the blox cam gears...I just need to installed my catch can noticed that the car shoots a puff of smoke when i let it decelerate in gear and feather the gas it make a puff come out so i'm sure by adding a catch can running from the fitting in the back of the block should fix that problem. I think also i thinks the puff of smoke is much more visible since i'm running an testpipe. Im really driving the car to a bare minimum cuz i really need to get it tuned cuz it's running pretty rich...

ahh when i first got to the dyno i was running really lean
i used a b18c5 map to drive it there
i havent bought a wideband yet, once on the dyno it was running super lean
almost 18:1
we spent almost three hours tuning
the car is pretty fun to drive, i have a jdm y1 tranny
the first 4 gears are pretty low, 1st is almost too low
this car NEEDS a traction bar, the wheels want to hop a lot
there are so many things that could be updated that i just dont have the money to buy

I had a question I just finished putting 200 miles on my fresh motor and i'm about to do the next oil change on it but is it normal for the oil to become dark after only 200 miles on a freshly built motor? I mean isn't doesnt look even look golden brown!

your oil should stay clean looking for quite some time
i have put 1200 miles on mine and the oil is still clean when i check it at the dip stick
changed it at 500
it should be kinda dirty looking when you drain it

Dude thats too extreme...i'm going to change my oil again tomorrow and put atleast 200miles and see what it looks like again....but I spoke to 2 different engine builders and they said it's normal...so i'll see what happens after this next new oil....started taking the motor higher on the rpms and it really moves after 3.5k rpm to 6.5k rpm specially with the JDM B16 tranny
