Aftermarket girdle question
Hi I was woundering if I install a girdle use stock main bolts if I have to get it aligned hone. I know if you use arp main studs you do because of clamping force and distortion but i dont see the need to align. Hone if your just useing stock bolts. Please explain why. Thankyou

the girdle would throw it off if it didn’t come with block from the factory. If it’s aftermarket girdle your installing it would be wise to line hone it otherwise you’ll have main bearings goin bad in no time and spin some bearings.

Re: Aftermarket girdle question
You only have to line hone the main journals if the girdle is doweled. The dowels are not necessary and many girdle types are smooth and simply lay flat on the top of the #2-4 main caps. If you are using stock bolts, torque them to 49 ft/lbs just like those on a GSR or ITR block girdle.

Re: Aftermarket girdle question
In engine building, good thumb rule is that don't guess anything, check and measure everything. It is possible to add the girdle with out need of line honing, but that have to check, no one can't tell it. Dowels just line ja tie parts up, bolt clamping force is what dirtort bores and deck distortion/ sleeve height affect more to the line of main bores.

Re: Aftermarket girdle question
No, I mean roundness of bore and the line of all those five. Bore roundness is checked by bore gauge. Least at three point. Main line with straight solid beam and marking color or with gauges. Deck plate or cylinder head installed, recommend. For example.
