B20v, First pass

B20v, First pass
I made my first pass this afternoon on my recently swapped, b20v. It made 220whp, 154 tq when hot. Today was 85 air temps. I went 13.819 at 101.92 on Rival 205 street tires with a 2.216 60'. The 95 hatch weighs 2250 with me in it. It was smoking down the strip because it appears the head gasket is now leaking some. Also my windshield wiper flew up while going down the track and that surprise me. I also banged it at the rev limiter 1-3.
I saw some coolant outside of the block near the header. I only got one pass in because I had to nurse it sixty miles home. I will fix the hg and try again soon. It was my first time at the drag strip and even though I didn't get runs in, I
84.5 x 89
12.5 Roller wave pistons
Endyn headwork
Crower 63402-2 cams
Skunk2 Ultra Street
Skunk2 70mm TB
Short ram intake w/filter
Plm toda header
3" skunk2 exhaust w/test pipe
370cc injectors
93 fuel
S300 v.2
4.4 ITR trans
Mikey @ PF Autoworks tuned
I will update this thread when I get it fixed and try again.

Re: B20v, First pass
With that build and curb weight you should be running much better times. Get some slicks and practice your technique and you should be running consistent 12 second passes.

Re: B20v, First pass
Head gasket was fixed last week, I went with a Golden Eagle. I was never happy with the cam choice so I bought a set of Pro2's from a friend. Not that the ones I had didn't make numbers, but they weren't my first choice and it came with the build. Going to have them installed and re-tuned hopefully next week if it fits the tuners schedule. I will have a chub if it makes 250 whp but hope for 240's with better driveablity thanks to a newer tune. Last dyno tune was last November, super ***** cold out. It is running lean when the temps warmed up in partial throttle and while trying to drive slow or at a steady speed. It bogs and bucks, almost undriveable currently.

Sounds like you and I are in the same boat. Needs more seat time. On slicks with 1.9 60s in a heavier car I'm in the 13.2-13.4 @ 102 range. 12s are just passes away.

Re: B20v, First pass
I definetly don't need more power now, I can't drive for **** as is. However, I couldn't pass up the deal and cams is something I always wanted. I figure it needed a touch up on the existing tune and I didn't to wait till next year to use these. I should invest in slicks but for how little I drive it on a track, I can't do it now. I've been on the look out for a good used local set.
I originally thought that on street tires, weight reduction, and 250 whp, low low 13 or even 12.9 was possible on a street tire. And then on a proper slick and more practice, 11.9 was obtainable In fall like weather conditions.

Re: B20v, First pass
Should be able to run some good times with seat time. Cars got potential for sure.
For comparison I ran a 12.86 @ 104 with my 207/138 lsvtec on 23" slicks. Cars got front/rear seats, all plastics, headliner, sunroof, carpet and radio.
So just keep at it man and I'm sure you will get the times down.

Off topic- not attempting to thread jack- this just chaps my *** LOL. james got the tune on point for the track and you're driving the hell out of the car.

Re: B20v, First pass
Not gonna lie James did do a great job tuning it. Lol. But it was in no way a track tune. When I had it tuned I'd never even been on the drag strip and no intentions at the time of it lol. I feel like it's in need of a retune for the track and get as much out of it as I can.
And thanks man. Made 100s of passes since and there's always something to mess with or learn.

Re: B20v, First pass
send my your dyno again man I wanna see it. I've never gotten a bad tune from james and he usually does a good job at what makes it the fastest in race mode lol. He's not a stoplight racer.
Sorry OP no more stray comments I promise

Yeah sorry op. But good news from our rants. You will get faster without modding the car, I can almost guarantee that. Just stick with it.
Andy I'll send it in the morning lol

Re: B20v, First pass
OP I'll be testing a set of 22's vs 23's on my setup next time i go out. I'll make sure I hare it here and in my thread as I'm sure that info will be beneficial for your build as well.

Re: B20v, First pass
Thanks all. Along with the retune on the cams, I'm going to switch to E85 and ID750's. I'm seriously thinking about the Whitfield header too but not sure about the merge collector being too big for my build. I should have a new dyno plot within 2 weeks to post.

Re: B20v, First pass
Once you make the switch with those injectors share the results. Curious to know the power made and what the duty cycle would be at on those. Calculators online are nice and all but I like real world experiences too.
Good luck with all the adjustments man. Keep us posted.

Re: B20v, First pass
My duty cycle is 66% at 9000rpm with 750s on 77% ethanol. I made 220/159 on a mustang dyno with 60% ethanol.

Re: B20v, First pass
Well... this thread just gave me some confidence of hitting 13's with good tires when my setup is ready and tuned.
Awesome build and decent time for the first run out. Can't wait to see what you can make happen as you get more seat time.
