Well I have the VC cut so it won't have to be removed (GO LAZINESS!!!!!) Do I need to be messing with the tensioner?

Loosening the tensioner will make your life easier, and you'll need to re-tension anyways after you mess with the cam gears. Tip: before you remove the upper engine mount, jack up the engine (put a block on the jack so it won't dent the oil pan) to relieve stress on the other mounts.
As far as the upper timing cover goes, people leave it off for show and most people never have problems. I say it's a bad idea because road debris can get in there and you don't want anything playing with your timing belt as you're driving along, but like I say most people remove it anyways.

Well I will pull the cover off and take a look tomorrow and see what I think. Honestly I think I will just wait though. I am too afraid of messing something up and not having anyone around to help me un**** my car.
