Default 2L GSR build, couple questions

Hey all,

Long time lurker, first time poster looking for a little advice on my upcoming build for nice weather street days/weekends at the track. Aiming for 250 whp on Churches dyno. I will be snapping pics during the build and will do a little write up with results when finished. Here's the details:

84mm sleeved b18c1, stock crank
H beams
Arias ~12.1 pistons
All new oem pumps and seals
Port flow or 4piston Gsr head, sk2 pro2's
Big tube header, haven't decided which yet
3" exhaust
S300
GSR trans, stock gearing with mfactory lsd for now
All going into a 92 vx

So my first dilemma is intake manifold, I'm debating between the sk2 ultra street and the victor x. Now, I'm leaning more towards the victor x due to CARB legality, but not much of a factor. Thoughts/opinions on the better option for my set up?

Next question is what throttle body is recommended? I'm looking for 70mm, but what brand?

Will RDX injectors be enough?

On to clutch, will a stage 2 hold up or should I go with a 3?

I think that's it for now, thanks

If using e85 use at least 750cc injectors. Pro 2 and victor X could work. Try the toda replica header. A good quality stage 2 or 3 clutch should suffice for a street car. You want to match the tb up depending on what plenum size you have. So with a vic X 65 I'd good or maybe a 70 can work, anywhere in between

Check out my build thread for ideas. Very similar motor, I just used the 89mm crank and a stock port head. I made 240whp on a dyno dynamics labeled "the heart breaker"

Depending on budget, PSI GUY is selling an SMSP B19 header which would pair nicely w/ this motor.

Id recomend the ultra street manifold with plenium spacer. I have the ultra street manifold and have the Pro series manifold sticker in the bay so i refer to that carb sticker to CHP when they check my engine works every time.

74mm TB matted to a 3'' cold air intake like Injen or AEM or if you want to go a lil more custom a go auto works cai desighn for the ultra street manifold. Although i still use the 3" CAI for the Type R but it still works fine with the ultra street manifold and i can still mount it in the same spot.

RDX injectors are a great set of injectors to use.

iFor header id go simple and effective and use the Skunk2 Alpha V1 header best bang for your buck header, i have the V2 but i still think the desighn of the V1 like many Tuners will agree will make more power N.A. The mega power is a bit more expensive but will make more HP than the Alpha series.

Exedy stage 2 will be a great clutch to use.

FWIW I run the exedy Stage 1 on my build w/ Fidanza 7lb flywheel. Never had a slipping issue.

LOL me too! its been a few years and it still holds up hard, even seen boost for about 2 years. The stage 1 would be fine too OP.

I ran the exedy stage 1 on my boosted LSV. Made 350whp 250tq. Never slipped once, even on slicks. I don't see the need for any NA B series that sees street duty to go for anything "bigger". It's IMO the best clutch on the market for b series from stock to wild. Easy to drive, comfortable to drive, and strong. Affordable too.

Thanks for the replies.

Nice numbers on your build 93eg, we will have very similar setups. I have tossed around going e85, and considering it more so now especially since I have yet to buy my injectors and fuel pump.

Good call on the sk2 manifold, I hadn't thought of the sticker idea. I'm thinking about going with the victor x and a port matched sk2 alpha 70mm tb. I have an AEM ITR cai and a comptech icebox/intake setup for it.

As for the clutch, I was definitely going with exedy and was planning on the stage 2 just for peace of mind, and I have a comptech ~8lb flywheel for it

I HIGHLY recommend going E85 on anything 12:1 and up with the bigger motors. It opened up a ton of tuning window on my setup.

I'm a huge fan of the victor X intake manifold and 70MM TB combo, it has worked well on my setup. Only thing I would consider is a Ultra street with spacers and a 74mm TB to see if that opens up some more power. To be honest, I don't think the money I would sped to change that would be worth it, it's something I'd like to test first lol.

My thoughts exactly on both.

E85 would open up the tuning, and I'm sure stations are somewhat common in SoCal. And the victor x/ 70mm combo, for ~$400 it's hard to beat.

My old 12:5:1 B20v I ran outta fuel on low cam using rdx 410 injectors and well over 100% duty cycle in vtec. On 93 octane they should do.

RDX injectors on 70psi are good to 280-300whp on pump if I'm not mistaken

x3 I have run the Exedy Stage 1 w/ Fidanza on my fully built B20 with no issues, this was autox, hillclimb, track days. It's more than enough clutch and doesn't have a super stiff pedal feel.
