Thats the thing with building an all motor ls. Since it doesn't have two different lobes, its gonna sound loopy until you get it tuned. Watch the video on the first page of hybrid's hatch. It's not all that loopy and he's running crower 404's i believe.

When you get it tuned, thats when the loopyness will go away.

I know crane and BC make cams for the b18a/b

Awesome thread! Ive been building Ls's for years and alot of people think Im crazy for not building "Vtec" motors..But the bang for the buck cant be beat with a Ls.

Heres one of my motors ..Ive built proablly around 15 or so Ls's of my own and a few for friends.
This was my favorite
Ported head,Ferra oversized valves,Omni duel valve springs,Crower 404,s,Ported intake manifold,Ebay header,Aem intake,Aem cam gears,Gates racing timing belt,Ctr crank pulley,Act 8pnd flywheel,Tampa clutch 4-puck clutch,B16 transmission..All motor this setup went 8.6 @ 85mph...And it loooovvved the bottle

the bc stage2 cams have no noticeable lope. now since their recommended lash is larger than stock, the motor itself is a little ticky, but it idles like my stock motor did. (ive got the afr ratio in the mid 13's and 17* timing. idle set at 1050rpms)

that being said, my setup from above is up and running. got about 400 miles on it. compression is lower than i expected (225)but its even and the car runs well. the cams really kick in above 5000 and it pulls hard as a vtec with at least bolt ons up top. butt dyno says im making in the 160/170 range off the street tune and ill try and hit the dyno within the next week or 2 if i can.

I just finished my Ls build 3 weeks ago.. Im at 900 miles now, Runs really strong for just a base tune for breaking it in. Here is a few pics of setup. I will take some engine bay pics soon. Also Dyno tunning in a few weeks.

Everything was brand new top to bottom.. Very fresh.

95 b18b1 bottom end bored to 82mm
82mm RS machine USDM Itr pistons
ARP rod bolts and headstuds
underdrive pully
ACL race bearings

96 p75 Ls head Ported & polished 3 angle valve job 10 thousands off the head
Crower 403 cams, Crower Ti-retainers/Dual valvesprings
skunk2 manifold
Skunk2 Cam gears
Cheap ebay header ported out.. 2 1/4 exhaust to dynomax muffler
B&M fuel pressure regulator
Crome tuned

The motor is in a 90 Integra and runs flawlessly so far. After 500 miles I did compression check and had 235-242psi across the board. Also after 500 miles I started to beat up on it a bit and ran my friends EK hatch with LS-Vtec, Went from a 3rd gear drop and I put 3 cars on the him by 7000 rpms in 4th when I let off. Im running on Crome with a base tune. I have pulled it to 8000 rpms a few times and it pulls harder and harder as the rpms go up.

Damn that looks like a nice build, maybe needs a better header. curious as to what it makes on the dyno with a tune.

Ls tranny for now. I had a B16 tranny on one of my other Ls motors last summer. I blew the differental up in it. I thought I blew the motor it was so violent. Blew the cassing into peices. I'll be looking for another b16 tranny soon, Honestly Im happy with how it pulls with LS gears. This is my 8th LS motor. I have had a few with nitrous,And this motor pulls like its on the bottle.. Im going to the dyno in 2 weeks, Ill post up the results when I get them. It should be around 190hp 155tq ...Well see ... Im going out tonight maybe I will have some kill stories....

Also when you use a LS tranny With a built LS motor and your reving to 8400rpms you dont fall out of the powerband. It just keeps pulling...

Inspirational thread.

I'm running a stock B18B1 w/ LS tranny now + header, exhaust and homemade airbox in my EJ8. Had thought about going LS/V, but after reading about these builds, I might just keep tinkering with what I've got. Might start with a chipped P75 and tune my current setup before going further.

You say that the vtec intake valve spring can be use in nonVTEC build but is it possible to use the ITR valve spring wich I think are double valve spring and are stronger than the b16 one. Is this vavle spring fit into a p8r head ?

If I use crower stage 2 with VTEC intake valve spring and stock Ls exhaust valve spring did I gonna be reliable ?

should i keep my 403's or should i get 404's i drive a mile to work and a mile home so i only drive my car roughly 10-15 miles a week, you think it will be overkill for my motor to run the 404's, i have crower valvesprings and retainers, i havent installed anything yet but i have full crower valvetrain including cam gears, blox mani, CTR crank pulley, ebay header, rs machines 82mm pistons, arp headstuds/rod bolts, micropolished crank, shotpeened stock ls rods, pnp head with 3 angle VJ, clutchmasters clutch with act flywheel and soon maybe an lsd...and you think if i get the 404's i will be able to run high 13's with slicks and a gutted interior? in my 92 integra ls with no p/s or a/c or rear interior

Ls transmission is garbage for allmotor. You will go faster with a B16/Gsr always. The 90-91 Ls transmission isnt as bad but any ls tranny newer than that is crap.

I had 404's and the idle quality was pretty bad..Even with a "base map" my car would still load up on fuel and foul plugs out sometimes. But I drove it to work everyday with only the fuel loading up problems...And that can be fixed with a good tune...I like 403's for a streetcar the idle is perfect.

I havent dynoed 403's then changed to 404's and dynoed with the same setup so I honestly could not tell you..My butt dyno tells me the 404's have better high rpm power though and they bog down low which makes daily driving kind of a pain. But like I said that could be all in the tune...Sorry I cant be more help.

B16/GSR tranny will make your 1/4 mile time faster for sure over LS.. I have a 91 ls tranny right now.. What does 90-91 ls trans have shorter gears over 92 and up??? I went from B16 back to LS. I still have the gear sets from the B16 tranny I had. Plan on putting them in my Ls cassing.
