Default TL 08 or TSX 09??

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello,
Was looking into a new TSX premium packagae 09, but realized I can get a newTL standard model 08 for a great deal; probably the same price as a TSX premium.
SO I am debating between the two cars...which one??
Other than a 58HP increase, what else does the TL 08 have more than the TSX premium that would justify me getting an TL?

I test drove both of them, and they are fun rides, the TL being even more fun because of the increase in HP. The TL does seem to me "more of a car"...

Two cons that the TL has that I know of are the "normal driving belt" that has to be replaced for 1000$ after 5 years, and it also uses more gas....but does it really use alot more gas? Is it a gas guzzler like the Maxima, or is the TL more on par like a v6 accord?

Also, another concern I have are the vibrations in the steering wheel at speeds of 125km. Is this normal in the TL? Have you experienced this before??

Looking for your great advice between the cars..thanks
D

Welcome to H-T first off

Based on looks alone, I would say get the TL. The 2nd generation TSX (09+) have drastically been madeover by Honda/Acura. Many people would also agree that the 1st gen TSX's look quite a bit better. But it's your opinion and get what you think looks best. Also, whatever you get, get a 6-speed. So much better than Automatic imo. The TL's are more luxurious cars, but I see more TL's around than TSX's which is why I like the TSX. I've yet to see a 2nd gen modded so they could possible look very good once lowered on a nice set of rims.

I do like the interior of the 2nd gen more than the 1st gen though. Much more refined imo. IIRC, the horspower went down 6 horses? but the torque went up. Somebody correct me if i'm wrong please. The TL will burn more gas since it's a V6 but I would still expect it to be in the 25 mpg range. But all in all, it's your car and buy what the best choice for YOU would be. Hope this helps

The vibration in the steering wheel is not bad at all. It never effected my driving.

You probably can't go wrong with either car.

The '09 TSX is a very nice car and looks great with the full factory Aero Kit (search this forum under my user name, i posted up pics of one that was in our dealership).

One thing to keep in mind is that the '08 TL is the last of that body style. The '09 TL is coming out very soon, so i don't know if you're wanting something that is the "latest and greatest" at the time. The '09 TSX is the latest and greatest for the TSX's and i find that it makes the '08 and down TSX's look kinda dated now (IMO of course).

The TSX is incredibly reliable though. The only recalls that affected that car were the headlight housing clips and some rear trunk wiring loom. but that was it, nothing major.

Some TL's (depending on VIN #) were affected by a power steering hose recall, but other than that, no other issues.

The '09 TSX has the same power rating as the old one, but anyone who drives one, feels that it's much more 'refined' than the previous versions. Even though it's bigger, you can't feel a power difference compared to the older ones.

Now is obviously a great time to buy an '08 TL as the dealers are trying to clear them out for the '09 model.

Good luck with your car purchase!!

I was debating about this question when I was going to get a new car. To get the TL or the TSX but I ended up getting the S2K. I'd do the TL over the new TSX though. I personally don't like the new redesign that they did to it. I think you should get the newer TL-Type S FTW
