for your first oil change you don't want to change it at 3k the oil from the factory has special additives that help during the break-in process. oh yeah i think i would use mobile 1 syn.

Re: 1st Oil change... (uncivical)
The specific brand oil doesn't really matter as all oil or now API SL, but a good rule of thumb is to stick with the major brands like Castrol, Pennzoil, Vavoline, etc., since they put more additives in their oil. Stay away from those 99cents or gas station brand oil.
First oil change is 5k miles, not 10k.

as long as its a brand name oil comp, valvoline, mobil, etc. oil is oil. not like your going to see or feel a difference. just keep changing it at the correct miles per your owners manual and youll be fine. unless you beat on your car alot then change it a little bit earlier.

if you ever redline your car, 3k oil changes is a must. if you're a granny driver then you can do it around 5k. I wouldn't trust any oil beyond that, esp not the honda stuff. synthetic may last you up to 10k but you still gotta check on it every week or so
half of my shifts are at redline's so i change my oil aroung 1.5-2k, just to be safe. thats just me but i am **** about my car

Re: (STC)
It seem that everyone has their own opinion about when to change oil. Let me guess...your mechanic told you so; Autozone/Kragen clerk told you so; Dealer tech told you so; My friend told me to do it @3k. I did not listen to anyone except oil manufacture spec!!!!!! Their engineers have done more test and experiments with oil than anyone on this forum. Everyone advocate that the oil they are using is better. How do you know for sure? Please enlighten me.

Re: (flip-flop)
synthetic oils will probably last up to 10k miles. I just dont know if the oil filters will last that long. 5k-7.5k is probably a safe choice. My 2 cents.

do the oil manufactures test their oil on every single engine? nope. when a manufacturer reccommends a certain oil weight put faith in them. the R&D time they do to design the engine, do you think theyll skip R&D on the engine oil that is the bloodline of the engine. they picked the best weight oil that would work and determind interval [mileage] that the engine could withstand old engine oil w/o casuing damage. another thing is the way you drive will affect how long engine oil will last. would oil that has been in an engine that has been brought to 8k everyday been through the same abuse as oil in an engine no higher than 4k?
