P0740 code on 2001 TL
I know the code stands for the TCC malfunction, but what exactly does this mean? And can someone help me point out the torque converter clutch? Thanks in advance

Re: (high_revs)
check with your dealer. maybe they have a warranty extention for your vehicle.. you might not have to pay a penny and they'll give you a new tranny.. or if they do decide to charge you, just ask for a one time goodwill gesture.. they'll usually say ok if you bitch enough

milage on the car?
warranty is 7 years 9 months from "in service date" or 109K miles (114K if you take into account the other settlement involving the odometer being off where honda added 5% to lease milage and warranty work milage limits)

you need a trans buddy.. p0740 is tourqe converter lock up. a common code found in thos when the trans takes a dump. p0740, p0730, or p0780 any of those three codes means u pretty much have to replace your trans

Not necessarily true. Most people are unaware that a P0740 DTC is much more vulnerable than a 730 or 780. Since the TCC is directly related to fuel economy, the feds have mandated this. The quickest check is going to be removing the TCC solenoid and checking the filter screen for clutch material. If there's clutch material, you've certainly got problems. If the filter screen is clean, the next step is to drop the tranny and remove your torque converter to check the o-ring for nicks, slivers or damage. A simple flat spot on the o-ring can cause a P0740 DTC. If nothing is wrong with the o-ring, wait it out. Have the dealer clear the code. If you're not noticing a driveability issue, chances are a small piece of contamination has passed through either the L/C control valve, L/C shift valve or L/C timing valve. If that's the case, you should be fine.
