No start: Related to Alarm immobilizer
1998 Acura CL
So I bought a theft recovery from an auction and I can't get the thing started.
I was able to cut a key which works on the ignition/doors, BUT i've learned that this thing has an immobilizer that needs to read a transmitter on the ignition key in order for it to start.
-The OBD connector behind the ash tray is not connecting to a CEL scan tool nor a key programmer.
-When I try to start the car using keys w/o transmitter the starter pops and when a hand on the starter something engages in there. Starter does not kick on!
-Green key light is constantly flashing when I have the metal non transponder key in.
I'm guessing that the immobilizer is doing shorting something to the OBD connector and I cant start bc of that.
Ideas?

Re: No start: Related to Alarm immobilizer
Did some searching & more questions:
My OBD connector is not communicating with code scanner when using a NON-Transponder key (plain metal key). I wonder if the immobilizer is shorting out the OBD connector because of this?
Reason this is important was because a mobile locksmith came over, but his programming equipment which hooked up via the OBD connector was not able to connect and I was using this plain metal key.
Before calling the mobile guy the Acura dealership quotes me $350 over the phone for a programmed key versus the $250 the mobile locksmith was charging. I need to get a service manual to verify the OBD connector doesn't have any shorts in it. If it does, then I have a different problem.
Anybody have the troubleshooting section in helms they can post up?
Where can I download the 98 Acura CL manual?

well if you have no keys not even the learn key you will need to replace the imobi unit. that's how the system was designed.the system is a type 1 and it will not engage the ecu. so you will have to bite the bullet and order the unit and you can install it and DON'T throw away the learning key
now is this all thats wrong with the car who knows ? but you have to start with the known problem and proceed.

Re: No start: Related to Alarm immobilizer
my little brother girl friend has that problem.
They just bought the car tonight...
They test drove it and everything is fine. started it up a couple of times. BUT when they drove it home and tried to start it, it would not start and indicated it was the immoblizer....
I asked her and she said it did not come with key or remote.
?
how the heck did they even start the car in the first place?
do you have to disconnect the battery for a while or something?
please help

check the wirings and other components for this like the Ignition Lock Cylinder, ecu, immobilizing keys... there may be a loose wiring and/or defects on the parts mentioned...

Re: No start: Related to Alarm immobilizer
I know this is a old thread. But I can not start one yet, just register on this site.
I got a 2013 TL about a month ago, it only came with one key, so I order another key online and had a locksmith cut and program it. Been using the new key ever since, couple of days ago, for whatever reason I try the old key to start the car, but it will not start the engine, show green key light on dashboard, which I search is the key immobilized feature.before I got the new key, the old key was was working. Any reason why the old key not work anymore? Would programming the new key knock off the old key? As there is suppose to be key #1 and #2.
