Default Isn't an Accord a TL??

Hello,
I'm in the middle of browsing for a new car.
I compared side by side an Accord V6 coupe EX-L 08, a TSX Premium Package 09, and the TL base model 08.

Apart from obvious differences in HP between the Accord and TSX, these cars are essentially the same, even more similar an Accord and a TL.

All cars have pretty much the same features, and differing only in a few small things.

Apart from the luxury name of Acura, in reality, am I not driving the same car with the same features?

Up in Canada, and Accord V6 EX-L will run me about $41k all in, the TSX and and TL will run me $5K to $10K more respectively.

How could I justify shelling out more money to buy a percieved luxury car.
All 3 models look hot, and all offer the same luxury features, all 3 models drive very well....what am I missing???

Please enlighten, thanks!
D

difference between an accord and TL comes down to

Accord

1. pay for extras like leather, V6, Nav. by the time you load up an accord, you are only a few $$ from a TL

TL base
everything except nav standard (aside from extras like spoilers, wheel locks, etc)
no cost for auto over stick

TL navigation
No extras car is loaded (aside from extras like spoilers, wheel locks, etc)
no cost for auto or stick

TL type S
No extra options includes navigation (aside from extras like spoilers, wheel locks, etc)
no cost for auto or stick

extra for summer performance tires

You might find bigger differences in the dealers than you'll find in the cars. :-)

This is something that has plagued Honda for as long as I can remember, that they produce several cars that would appeal to the same buyer.

The 1998 Acura Integra GS-R competed head to head with the 1998 Honda Prelude, for example.

Their argument is that the market share they have with the two cars ends up being more than the market share they'd have if they narrowed it down to just the one compromise car. In other words, the narrowing it down might cause 30% of the public to buy the one compromise car.

But with the two cars that appear to compete with each other, you'll have 18% buying the Acura and 20% buying the Honda, so they get 38% of the public instead of the 30% they would get with just the one car.

But, anyway....

Look closely at the cars and you'll notice subtle differences and slightly different attractions between them. The TSX might cost about what the others cost, but it's a much smaller car with different dynamics and a different appeal. And a TL and Accord might be basically the same under the skin, but the TL's appealing to a different buyer than the one that's usually attracted to the Accord.

You'll see a bigger difference comparing the 2009 Accord to the 2009 TL, because in that case you'd be in the equivalent generations. Comparing a 2008 Accord to a 2008 TL, you're comparing an Accord that is a generation ahead of the TL.

It's just going to come down to your personal preference.

And I wasn't kidding...it might just come down to whether or not you think it's worth it to pay a little more for Acura's premium dealer relationship, such as it is.
