Annoying rattle in '04 CR-V
Hello all,
I purchased an '04 CR-V in May, and it currently has 6,000 miles on it. I love the vehicle, the gas mileage is fantastic and has surprisingly good road manners for an SUV of its size. About a month ago, it developed the most annoying rattle coming from the rear of the vehicle. It sounds like two pieces of plastic hitting up against each other. At first, I thought it was coming from the passenger 2nd row seatbelt hinge that attaches the belt assembly to the interior panel, but it seems good and tight so I don't believe that's it. I listen to it everytime I drive, and it only does it when coming to a stop. It's as though certain RPMs cause it to rattle because it won't do it at normal speeds or going over bumps in the road. I have narrowed it down to either the cargo area in the rear that houses the picnic table, or perhaps the cover that houses the jack and toolset. I've checked both of these things and wound up using a bit of electrical tape on the plastic brackets that hold the jack cover on, so it's tight now. I do not, however, know how to go about curing any possible noise the picnic table/cargo area might be making. It may be something else, but I cannot pin it down unfortunately, and everything else seems tight like it should be. My question is this: has anyone else experienced rattles with their CR-V similar to this one? What's so bad is that this is the only noise it makes because as you know this newer style CR-V was pitched to be virtually free of all squeaks and rattles and this one is driving me crazy. Any help that can be offered is much appreciated.

It is going for recall work tomorrow, actually, but I figured I would ask some CR-V owners first to see if they have experienced similar problems. Perhaps someone else might have a better idea. Dealer mechanics aren't always the sharpest tools in the shed when it comes to pinning down interior fit and finish problems, you know.
But since you guys have no comments whatsoever, I will rely on dealer expertise. Thanks.

If that were the case, why do we get all the problems the independent shops cant repair? And usually know what the problem is before we even look at the car. BTW, **** OFF, what did I do to you?

Not to be rude but, it's people like you that I hate.. "Oh there's this little noise and it's coming from here or there.. It's still under warranty.. Blah blah blah.."
If you want to be a jerk and talk ****, take your pile of honda crap somewhere else.. We hate warranty work.. Whole lot of ****, for half the pay..
That's what I hate most about the dealerships, we'll fix anything.. Whether the owner or the independent shop screws it up..
The more I work at Honda, the more I hate Hondas..
---Now here's the thing though.. If you want your interior fixed, ask for the Interior "Technician".. If you want a mechanic, bring it to Bubba's shop down the street..
- One more thing, if you don't like it, do it yourself.. That's why I'm a Technician..

Put your car in park. Let it stand still. Does it rattle?
Now put slightly hold the gas pedal at 2,000 RPM. Does it rattle?
If you guys rev it up and it rattles, its probably loose ceramics inside your catalytic converter. The temperautre inside gets extremely hot and when something hits the cat or you hit a bump by going too fast or accidently the ceramic breaks up and causes an annoying rattling sound. Unfortunetly Hondas are notorious for rattles (especially heat shields), but overall they are built strong and hold high market value due to their reliance. Replacing a new cat every 70K for $100 is worth it..sometimes you pay nothing because its still under warranty.
