Icon5 2002 Acura TL Transmission problems/ am I getting screwed

I have been told I need my transmission is damaged and needs to be replaced but after many recent repairs and lots of money I am wondering if the damage caused to transmission could be related to repairs done. or parts replaced such as the O-ring etc. Please see photos attached for a list of repairs. Please help!
Here is my story:
I recently had approx $4000 worth of work done on my Acura. My car was starting to show signs of a small oil leak so I took it in and was told it had too many oil leaks, front & rear seals, valve cover, Gaskets etc. because the work was going to be so much we asked the mechanic to really go over it with a fine tooth comb and tell us if it would be worth the investment. I love this car it has been a really good car with little to no problems but did have 208,000 miles on it but I would rather fix it than take on a new car note if it was worth the investment. other than the oil leak it was running perfectly fine. after a week long valuation and looking at the prior repairs he said in his opinion it would be worth it. So after approx 4 weeks in the shop and the following repairs (please see pictures for list of repairs) I pay and pick it up! 3 days later took it back because it was driving funny the motor felt like it was running alot rougher and when I would push on the gas nothing would happen from time to time etc. also wanted them to check because it appeared that there was water(?) leaking from it even when it was up for the night in the garage. They replaced the oxygen sensor and said they could find no leaks. I picked it up a week later and though it was not having that issue as much, I did let them know that it felt like the engine was giving a little kick or jumping when I started it. I also had an episode where when I went to start it it would not start until several trys. It just wasnt driving as smoothly as it did before all the repairs. took it back for 1 more week at that point to have the ballist replaced and to have them take another look but said everything looked fine. So I dismissed it to just being in my head because I had been without my car for 6 weeks and forgot how drove.Well 1 week after getting it back my Transmission totally failed. I had to have it towed in. Totally sick to my stomach and in tears They said they added some transmission fluid and an additive and that was probably the problem but then called back later that day and said I needed a new transmission to the tune of approx $3500-$4000.

Wow, what a story.

So you don't know anyone local to give you some direct advice on this? How long have you been going to this repair shop?

Yes, there could be a relation between your tranny trouble and the repairs. They removed the motor and did some major work.

I will say that $4000 of repairs and maintenance into this old car was really questionable at best and completely foolish at worst. Sorry, I know that's hindsight. How bad was it leaking oil?

why did they charge 1600 dollars for engine removal?! that is way too much. thats like saying it took 16 hours to remove it @ $100 dollars a hour. a good honda/acura tech could pull the engine in prob 4 hours no problem. they really overcharged. whats really sad is they were to lazy to properly diagnose were the leak was coming from. it could be as simple as cleaning the whole engine and watch the now clean engine for a leak. thats crazy it could of been a distributor o-ring that leaked all over the engine. ive seen leaking valve covers leak and cover the whole engine/transmission. there was no way to tell were the leak was from. u should always ask for your old parts back so u know for shure they changed them. im shure from draining all the trans fluid while the enging was out, they refilled what they lost by removing the trans lines. i have seen were new fluid will make a old transmission do weird things like slip, or not shifting smooth. the transmission filters eventually get plugged up with clutch material and needs to be changed.

make sure u don't get ripped off again and don't pay over $2200 for a shop to remove the engine and transmission on the sub-frame, rebuild the whole transmission and put it back together with a 3 year warranty 50,000 mile.
get as many quotes until u find a shop that does "in house" transmission rebuilding. each guy his own job at the shops. one will remove the engine another will just do the rebuilding and saves alot of money doing it this way. the a re manufactured transmission is $2746.00 through napa. u could pay that and have it done in a week.

Mechanics are like doctors, you never want to get just one opinion. If I where you, and if I really wanted to continue to invest into the car, I would take the car to a much more reputable place and pay a little extra to have a better piece of mind. It already seems that you have been paying extra on top of that for no results.

good luck.

It's actually easier & less time consuming for the tech to remove the engine & perform all the work in this case. It also should be less labor hours charged but it seems they took advantage of what is allowed to be charged per individual jobs ... in other words, they did you no favors when totalling the bill for labor charges.
Just my 2 cents.

Oops ... sorry ... didn't realize this is an old post.
