Default Worth using OEM oil filter on an RSX?

Got my '03 a few weeks ago and time for an oil change. I always used to use OEM filters on my Civics but I seem to read a lot do not nowadays.

Does everyone use OEM filters or are there other brands just better?

would recommend oem or mobile 1..... there is a great article I read where they sliced the brands of oil filters apart and there really is no comparison to oem and aftermarket. The aftermarket ones look like a piece of paper you would use in 1st grade to color on as an internal filter, terrible quality.

OEM Honda is good depending on who makes it. Comparison video showing differences in OEM filters:

I generally use Wix but there are a lot of good options out there. I stay away from anything with cardboard end caps because I've seen a few that were improperly assembled (alignment to media) and there is no way to check that without destroying the filter.

It's very costly to generate data on filter media so you generally don't see much that is shared. Here is some of the little I know of that Amsoil shared:

Honeywell and Filtech make the filters. Honeywell being the current which does make Fram filters. From what I understand the Tough Guard filter is similar to the OEM Honeywell. Plenty of Filtech filters available if you desire.

My local Honda actually sets them aside. You can also order a 5 pack on Amazon.

Interesting side by side comparison.

Awesome help fellas thanks!

What about Acura, same thing applies I am sure. My GF has an '03 RSX and I want to do the change with that and get a filter.

There's nothing that special about the current PLM filter.

But it will work on ANY honda except the S2000, NSX, and I believe 1st gen Insight.

I shop at advance and O'Reilly for oil change specials. They usually have Purolator or Wix filters. They're readily available and cheap....and sometimes advantageous as compared to a Honda filter.

I use the OEM PCX S2000/NSX filter on my S2000 (duh), but I have also used it successfully on my K24A2 (TSX), and several B series engines. It should fit a K20A2/A3 just fine also. I've heard that there are advantages to this filter. But...I mainly use it on my S2000 because its the only filter that seals properly - via torque wrench (you cannot install a PCX by hand no matter how strong you think you are).

Its just an oil filter, BTW. I'm sure there are plenty of 300k mile hondas out there that get quick lube joint oil changes with mystery filters and still run just fine.
