Default Strange 'click/clunk' sound after installing springs on stock struts.

I had Tein Flex on my ep3 and had no noises whatsoever out of the car when going over bumps, etc. I uninstalled those and put some H&R Sports on my oem Ep3 struts. Everything went peachy until I started to notice a click/clunk sound out of the front right strut when going over bumps--even moreso with the wheels turned it seems.

I dissassembled the strut/spring and everything was together fine. I can turn the wheels with no noises at all when there is not a load on the front suspension. However, the noise really sounds like the spring moving around--kind of like it is catching and then releasing against something causing the quick clunking sound.

At the end of my driveway, I can drive up and down the same set of bumps and the noise happens everytime on the same set of bumps. I can also drive figure 8's and no noises occur unless I snap the wheel back quickly when making a turn. Otherwise, smooth turns are not a problem.

Any suggestions as to what the problem could be?

I wish I could help, I noticed the same thing when I lowered my RSX on the Tein springs...Its really only there for me when I go over the speed bumps in my girlfriends appt complex. I think it has something to do with the fact that the Tein springs didn't need to be compressed to put on the stock shocks. In other words. Could the suspension travel quick enough and rebound faster than the stock shocks. Probably IMO.
Good luck figuring it out though....BTW my noise is only from the front.

My noise, from what I can tell, is only from the front passenger side strut. It is such a hard noise to pinpoint because the car has to be moving and the wheels turned and/or going over a bump. And it is only one big click/clunk--not a constant set of clicks like a bad cv joint would make.

I swear it sounds like the spring not seating properly though.

it's normal. Anything other then stock springs will make this noise with our front struts. When the springs are loaded with the weight of the car and you turn the steering wheel, the top hat tries to turn the spring in it's perch so it goes "clunk."

Grease up the top hat/spring bushing real well with White Lithium grease and that should take care of most of the problem, if not all of it. You might have to grease them up every now and then also.

I have Neuspeed race springs and I have no clunking at all. If greasing the bushings dont work try making sure the springs are aligned the proper way. Or make sure that they are seated the proper way.

yeah you gotta remember the rubber seats they sit on and at the top or it will be metal on metal, and sliding around too. I have heard alot of people complaining about H&R springs...I got the progress on my EP and everything is fine after 10,000 miles.

Only when its a cold morning do they creak.

Good ole' spray grease will solve that problem.
Had the same noise with my GCs, until I greased up the top and bottom of the coil.

I don't think that is normal. I know a few people with that same problem. Make sure that your top strut nut is tightened to spec. Over tightening I believe causes this clunking sound.

todd00- someone made a post on this not too long ago. every posssibility is listed as well as an illustration of the spring assembley. it's for the dc5 but it pertains to the ep3 as well. there are little "nipples" that can be easily overlooked when reinstalling the springs. this nips have to be pulled through the top plastic bushing with a little marine lube in between. ( there are about 4 of them.) it took me forever to figure it out and YES the noise can be eliminated. also, make sure u have enough spring silencer tubing going around the coils themselves. if u don't u can pick some up from any acura dealership. it's an oem part for the mdx. good luck. the part # is 53442-sm1-a00
