Default JDM DC5 Type R ecu on RSX Type S?

ok recently i bought the JDM DC 5 Type R ecu for my RSX Type S.. b/c i was told it would work... i admit im not a gear head just yet so i really dont know what to do but slap it on and see if it works... is there anything else that i would have to do in order for it to work?

this is what i did...

disconnected the battery
took off the stock ecu
installed the new ecu
connected the battery
and tried to start it

the first attempt let me run for about one second and then it would die
and all the other attempt wouldnt even start
so obviously i have to do something else or the ecu is no good

if you know what to do please help me out!

thanks,

Josh

it is not working because the key you have does not match the key it is programmed for......the only key that will work with that ecu is teh one that also works in the car it came out of.......sport compact car did a swap from a dc5 to a ep3 and they had to transfer keys along with the ecu......sorry modern technology has screwed with your plans!!!

correct, my friend tried this with a UK EP3 and the JDM ECU wouldnt work as the immobiliser chip is built into individual keys, so you would have to track down the original ignition barrel & key and fit it to your car....sell the JDM ECU!

You can bypass your immoblizer. But i don't know if you really want to.

anyone knows if this is the same technology as introduced in 00 and 01 integras? if same, then the car should start.

The process of programming keys involves a vin number, and the honda brake code. If these didnt come with the jdm dc5 ecu then it is garbage in the states. I know on h22 swaps, and stuff they were able to remove the immobilizer. If it is inpossible to remove that immobilizer then it is better off in the trash.. Just food for thought.

This is the route i think i am going to take since i have yet to find a solid answer. I am swaping a jdm dc5 into a base model rsx. i am going to use the k-tuned imobilizer instead of taking the change that the jdm ecu and wiring harness don't work. Last thing i want is to get the old motor out and then start the wiring process and run into a snag. i called k tuned and they stated that the only difference between the jdm and type s wiring harness is the length due to right hand drive (jdm) i will use the type s harness and ktuned imobilizer.

if anyone has any better ideas please let me know.

10 years later...

Use your stock engine harness, kpro/reflash stock ecu, no key reprogramming necessary.
