Icon3 Site Guidelines - Please Read

This was all copied from the site guidlines link that is at the bottom right of every page on the forum. I just thought it would be a good idea to post it because lately we have been having a lot of posts that are in direct violation of the "rules". I know this is only a forum, but a lot of people ask, and get their questions answered here and it makes it a lot easier for everyone the smoother the site can run. Please read and be familiar with all of this information before posting. If anyone had any question about anything really, please feel free to ask me personally and/or any other mod. We are here to help.

Please Note: Any direct voilation of the rules will result in thread closure, and if the problem persists... infractions will be given.

Honda-Tech Terms of Service

Honda-Tech administrators and moderators are the sole interpreters of all rules. Furthermore, they may respond as they deem appropriate to any additional situation that may arise, since no policy at Honda-Tech is pretended to be exhaustive.

These Terms of Service may be modified at any time.

1. General Forum Conduct

The highest standards of polite behavior are expected and enforced. While we encourage a free exchange of ideas, the right to free speech in our legal system does not extend to violating rules or otherwise causing problems here.

Heated discussions are permissible; however keep it under control and respectful at all times. Do not flame people, and do not instigate fights. Replies are allowed, but remember that respectful conduct is expected. If you disagree with a post, just state your own opinion and reasons for thinking so. Spirited discussions are welcome but do not intentionally start or perpetuate antagonistic or inflammatory threads, particularly those directed at another member. In particular, when someone posts personal insults or attacks, it is better NOT to reply (which can escalate the hostility), but rather, to report the post to a moderator (see the "Contact Us" section below for additional details).

Harassing, intimidating, stalking or threatening other community members is not permitted and will not be tolerated.

No one can create a post openly critical of any individual or group of people based on race, color, national origin, ethnicity, sex, sexual orientation, marital status, family relationship, age, mental or physical disability, religion or religious beliefs. We urge members to take the greatest care not to insult each other by using any derogatory term referring to such characteristics. Moderators will actively follow up on complaints raised about these issues, and will take actions up to and including the deletion of the account of the offender.

Honda-Tech uses very few language filters because we believe in allowing our members to speak freely. Do so within reason however. Please post like a responsible adult. Profanity and rudeness are not welcome, and can be sanctioned at the moderator's discretion. Posts should be typed in English; leave those text message abbreviations on your cell phone, not here. Attempts to circumvent the language filters will be treated the same as using the terms which the filters prevent, and both will usually result in point deductions.

There is no such thing as allowable not-work-safe material. Do not place pornographic or otherwise unsafe material here. We intend that all material here should be work safe and family safe.

Posting, distributing, transmitting or promoting illegal content is not permitted. This includes the posting of copyrighted material without the explicit consent of the author, the posting of links to such copyrighted material, the posting of the use of goods or services (e.g. Carfax) in an unlawful or restricted manner, etc.

Commercial posts, defined as posts on behalf of a business or profit-making enterprise, are not permitted. The exception to this rule is that businesses are permitted to pay to become sponsors of this site. Site sponsors are permitted to create such posts in the sponsor marketplace forums. For more information on becoming a sponsor on this site, see the "Contact Us" section below.

Posting, uploading, emailing or otherwise transmitting any material that contains any malicious computer code, or reverse engineering or hacking any materials on the site is not permitted. Such prohibited postings include links which create unexpected results, such as changing the settings on a computer, logging out, etc.

In your signature and other parts of your profile, do not post links to other websites that are clearly in commercial competition with Honda-Tech or Internet Brands.

Do not post links to other websites containing material that is not acceptable in posts in the forums here.

When starting a topic, make the title specific enough that people scanning the list of forum topics will know what's inside. "Need help" or "have a question" are not specific enough. If you want someone to open your topic, give people an idea what it's about.

Please refrain from posting in all uppercase (LIKE THIS), either in topic titles or in posts, since this is considered yelling, based on internet etiquette.

Impersonation of another person is not permitted.

Do not post complaints regarding Honda-Tech, the software, the staff or the servers in a public forum. See the "Contact Us" section below for information about contacting us with any site-related issues.

2. Usernames

You are free to chose your screen name, but pick one that you can live with forever because you might not be allowed to change it. Basically:

No profanity, either exact or implied
No sexually lewd or racially/ethnically derogatory terms, either exact or implied
Not similar to, or a mimic of, another member's screen name
Not excessively long. Keep it to 20 characters or less

If your screen name is found to be in violation, the Mods/Admins reserve the right to alter the name and/or ban you without prior notice.

If you are found to have created a screen name with the express intent of mocking/mimicking/harassing a specific member, both the mimicked account AND your real account will be banned.

3. Avatars

Avatars must comply with common sense and common decency. The use of profanity, nudity, and other content that is not permitted in posts is not permitted in avatars, either. If you are in doubt, then you should ask a forum moderator before enabling an avatar. Avatars found to be objectionable will be removed without notice and you will be placed on No Avatars permission level. An individual moderator might elect to give you a second chance, but there is no third chance.

Basically if you could expect to see it in public then it is probably ok. Public places mean malls, stores, parks etc. Nude beaches ARE NOT considered public places.

4. Signatures

Keep your signatures brief. The site will limit signatures through software settings.

Common sense rules of decency apply to signatures. If it's not appropriate for a post, then it's not appropriate in a signature, either.

Commercial signatures are frowned upon. However, a simple one or two line signature that links to your commercial site and/or which lists your phone number will be allowed.

Links in signatures for other forum websites, and/or sites clearly in commercial competition with Honda-Tech or Internet Brands, will be removed at the discretion of senior moderators or employees of Internet Brands.

If in doubt, ask a moderator (see "Contact Us" below).

5. Post to the Proper Forum

It is extremely important to start any topic in the forum in which it is most appropriate! honda-tech consists of groupings of forums, with specific rules for those groupings:

The Model Specific Forums are technical forums dedicated to specific models of Honda/Acura vehicles, and in some cases specific generations of those models. Each of these should be used for technical discussions about the specific car model to which it is dedicated. NO CLASSIFIED POSTS ARE PERMITTED (for sale posts, want to buy posts, etc).

The Technical Forums are dedicated to specific types of technical discussions, such as specific systems on the car, specific usages for our cars, etc. Each of these should be used for technical discussions about the specific topic to which it is dedicated. NO CLASSIFIED POSTS ARE PERMITTED (for sale posts, want to buy posts, etc).

The Sponsor Marketplace Forums are a form of advertising for vendors who pay this site to advertise in these forums. They frequently have special deals, group buys, etc. Topics must be started by site sponsors; users are welcome to post questions and comments. However, since these forums are advertising forums, posts that are negative or that are on behalf of competitors are not permitted in these forums.
If you are interested in becoming a site sponsors please visit this site: http://www.internetbrands.com/autonetwork

The Honda-Tech Marketplace Forums permit individuals (not businesses, as noted above) to place classified ads for cars, car parts, and other items for sale, wanted to buy, and for trade. They consist of two groups of forums, in addition to the Sponsor Marketplace forums mentioned above. The General Sales Forums are for nationwide classifieds, with specific forums for vehicles, parts for sale, etc. The Regional Classifieds are designed for buyers and sellers in specific regions in North America, to facilitate in-person transactions. Every topic must be placed by someone located in, or willing to travel to, the forum in which it is created.

The Appearance and Cosmetic Forums concentrate on appearance-related topics, including topics consisting primarily of photos, appearance build projects, and "group threads" for club-like discussions. NO CLASSIFIED POSTS ARE PERMITTED.

The Community Forums consist of two groups of forums. The General Discussion Forums are for discussions not related to Honda/Acura vehicles, with forums for various types of discussions, plus the General Discussion and Debate Forum for discussions that don't fall into any of the other forums in this area. NO CLASSIFIED POSTS ARE PERMITTED. The Regional Forums and Meets are for discussions about, and events located in, specific regions in North America. Every topic must be relevant to the region for the forum in which it is created. NO CLASSIFIED POSTS ARE PERMITTED.

Individual forums may have their own rules, as well as FAQ, or answers to Frequently Asked Questions. When they do, these are usually in a topic that is "stickied" so that it is always placed at the top of the list of topics.

6. Search!

Before creating a topic to ask a question, search the appropriate forum(s) to see if it has been asked before. You'll be amazed how many things have been covered before. Also, you can search topic titles only, or post bodies as well. The more specific you are in your search terms, the more likely any hits will be what you're looking for (but if you're too specific, you might miss some relevant information). Searches run faster if you limit your search to topic titles and/or to specific forums and/or to specific posting usernames.

7. Including Images in Posts

Images included in posts must follow the same rules as described above for language in posts and images in avatars - in other words, they should follow common decency; profanity, nudity, and other objectionable content are not allowed.

Images included in posts must be hosted on other websites onto which you can upload images from your PC and which permit remote access to the images from posts on honda-tech.com You can include images by preceding the website address for the image with the code [ img ] (without spaces) and following it with [/img].

8. Post Whoring

Do not post-*****. Post-whoring is defined by Honda-Tech as the following:

Posts which contain no relevant contribution to the thread, topic, or site
Posting responses to a thread for the sole purpose of boosting post count
Posting derogatory and/or 1-word answers to a topic
Posts/Threads that are meaningless and lack the ability to elicit thought-provocative responses
Posting a short/simple response which shows you replied to the title and not the topic

9. Private Messages

The best way to contact others on this site is to use this site's private message facility. You can do so by clicking the person's username next to a post, and then on the drop-down list, click on "Send a Private Message to".

You can also contact anyone by displaying their profile (by clicking on Member List to find them) and then clicking where it says "Send Message".

You can view your own private messages by clicking on "Private Messages" under your username at the top of each web page.

You can set options in your User Control Panel (User CP) to send you a pop-up message and/or send you an e-mail when you receive a private message.

All rules for the use of these forums apply to private messages as well as to posts in topics on the forums.

The contents of private messages received from others should not be posted in topics on the forums.

10. Contact Us

If you observe a violation of these terms, please contact us. (In particular, if you observe flaming on the forums, it does not help to reply back with more flames yourself; not only does that escalate the situation, but it can lead to moderator actions against you, not just the other(s) involved.) The easiest way to contact us to report a problematic post or topic is to use the "Report Post" button under the username next to the relevant post. This is the button that looks like this:

You have the opportunity to add comments, in case it is not obvious why you are reporting the post. This facility sends an e-mail to all moderators for the forum.

If you have a concern about a specific forum, you can send a private message to any moderator for that forum. To view the list moderators for a forum, go to the list of topic titles in the forum. The moderators are listed at the bottom right of the web page.
https://honda-tech.com/showgroups.php

If a moderator contacts you, please reply directly to that specific moderator.

For any concerns regarding the site or regarding multiple forums on the site, contact George Knighton.

The contents of exchanges of private messages with moderators should not be posted in topics on the forums.

All interactions with moderators are expected to follow the same rules of conduct as posts on the forums. Please be respectful, and the moderators should do the same. As a general rule, you are more likely to succeed in the reason your are contacting us if you are polite; for this reason, if you are angry about something, it may be a good idea to wait until you have calmed down before contacting us.

If you have been banned, you can discuss it with the moderator involved via e-mail. Click on that moderator's profile (click on his/her username next to a post, or look it up using the Member List function) and see if an e-mail address is displayed. If not, contact any moderator via e-mail and state that you would like to discuss your ban.

Those wishing to become site sponsors, which enables the placement of banner ads as well as topics in the sponsor marketplace forums, should visit http://www.internetbrands.com/autonetwork

I don't think this needs to be stickied because it's very easy to find on it's own, so I will bump this every once and a while just to keep people aware

If people can't even search for their own questions, you think people will search for the site rules? Kind of an oxymoron, dontcha think?

Sometimes I wish this site was more like Team-Integra.net, although
they're almost too ****-ish.

Josh are you a mod now too?!

<---nominates myself for mod status.
I promise to regulate/crush noobs on a regular basis.

I agree, and in fact...

We are going to start being pretty strict around here when it comes to the rules. It's all for the best anyway, the easier it is for someone to weed through the crap, the easier it is to find what you are looking for and get your questions answered. Infractions are going to be given out to those in direct violation. I, and many will agree that we are fair mods and that we do the best we can to take care of whats going on in the section but... we can only be sooo nice, and we will not be pushed around per se'.
