Default Seat swap- 05 into 02 RSX

Just thought i'd throw up some info for 2002-04 owners wanting a seat upgrade from the 05-06 models

I bought a brand new RSX Premium back in 2002. I loved the car, but did not end up being happy with the stock seats, especially on longer trips. So, a couple years ago, i sourced out a set of minty 2005 leathers.

I kept the SRS unit and seat belt buckles, then sold my minty 02 leather seats for $700, and paid $750 for the newer set....not bad for a $50 upgrade :D

They are so much nicer than the original design with better support and more padding making more comfortable in every way. After my car was parked for the winter last year, i installed them in the spring once the weather was nice, thinking it was a bolt in process. Well, they were, BUT.........

My SRS came on instantly once i started the car. Anyway, with me being lazy for a bit, i just left it. I did a little bit of research and did discover the the SRS unit and the seat belt buckles are both different from the 02-04 to the 05-06 generations.

Today i had the day off and got motivated, and removed the seats and replaced the SRS unit, they are different part numbers, and made by different companies.

here is the 05-06 SRS unit made by Elesys

The 02-04 unit is made by NEC

Here are both parts side by side. The unit is located in the passenger seat, on the inside, by the park brake. The seat cover just unzips allowing access to it

I also replaced both seat belt buckles from my original seats to the new ones as the part number was different and sent out different signals. The are pretty easy to switch over being just one large both. Note- the drivers side if a little tough to get the wire harness plugs through the side of the seat, so some muscle will be needed to pry the opening large enough to get the harness plugs through.

Now they are all swapped over. The light is still on, and just needs to be reset. From what i know, i can hit up a dealer for the reset, or, there is some kind of paper clip trick to reset it....i will post my findings some
