Default k20 tuning alternative to kpro?

Really what the title states, I dont know all that much about tuning k-series motors, all I really know is h motors. I understand from research that tuning a k is not nearly as cost efficient as the p28 socket for h22. However, I cant see how the prices for kpro are justified and that there is no other alternative for it other than EMS which is almost the same price and not nearly as good. I see some itb kits online for the k motor and it interests me a lot for a future build idea, however I know itbs are nothing without proper tuning. I'm just looking to see if there is any other way to tune itbs without losing an arm and leg for kpro in the process.
I understand it would probably be much easier and cheaper to just go with an h or another motor rather than a k, but i'd like to know either way. Thanks

I hear KTuner is a good, cheaper alternative to K-Pro. I don't have it myself as I went with K-Pro.

So, been doing some research on this kpro thing, and there is just so much info its hard to really get it all in. Will any ecu from any k20 motor work? Does automatic or manual matter? Does the ecu I get have to match the engine I have? (Say for example I get just the motor without an ecu)?

K pro works with any Kseries ecu, although different platforms do use different connectors. There are however adapters available from Hondata as well. These days you can get a brand new Kpro setup for just under $700, and for the capability it has it really isn't too bad.
