Get to 8k rpms then check engine light flashes?
Not sure what it means. I was going 55mph, put it in third and got up to 8k rpms. Everything was fine but the check engine light started flashing. Does anyone know why this is?

was your cel already on? quick search on google shows flashing cel = sever misfire, which could damage the cat, among other things...

8500 rpm. definitely a reflash, k100, or maybe even k-pro. have you check the ecu? how does the car run? anyways its either your car is getting knocks or its shift light.

Yes, check engine light programmed as shift light, very possible. Beats using a big tach in my opinon.

okay you got the right 8k reving engine. try replacing the spark plugs if they are not new. my friend had a prob with his engine and it was his old *** spark plugs messing everything up.

06 type s is a k20z1 its alil better then the a2 in some aspects such as cam and stuff. but when your check engine light flashes that usually means its sensing a misfire

If the car was tuned, it was probably set up as a shift light. My integra does the same thing.

I doubt you have K pro or a reflash. A simple look at your ecu will tell you. A flashing CEL is an indication of a misfire bad enough to damage the cat. All late model obd2 cars have this function.

Im just curious about the reasoning of having your alternator shut off at 5k? What if your battery goes bad while your driving and your running off the alternator until you hit 5k then your car would in theory die? Do you get that big of a gain by having that function?

2. If my battery was ever so weak that my car literally died above 5000 rpm, I don't think it would have started the car in the first place.
Turning the alternator off is worth about 3 or 4 horsepower, not a big deal. But since I can, why not? Any K-series on AEM can be programmed do this (as well as a million other things). Keep in mind, since it's rpm and tps based, I can cruise around all day at 6000 rpm with the alternator 'on', it won't turn 'off' till i exceed 75% throttle (and I can set the thresholds anywhere I want, these just work well for me)
OEM's use the same strategy for WOT a/c cut-offs.
