Excellent Fuel Conversion Write Up Ep3
Per Cranny on k20a.org after I asked a question about return type fuel system conversion in an ep3.
heres what your gonna do.
-take out the backseats
-4 screws pull up the tin cover and unplug the harness.
-use a big flathead and hammer and tap the ring holding the sending unit in loose , lefty loosy
-pull out the sending unit and place a plastic bag over the hole and temp. replace the plastic ring , cant focus when your high on gas , lol
-cut and remove the stock plastic lines from the sending unit , both them.
-remove the stock fuel pressure reg , keep the plastic fitting on the very bottom that shoots the return fuel towards where the pump and filter bag are.
-pull apart the arms holding the top of the unit to the bottom box , they just snap apart.
-unclip and seperate the bottom halves exposing the pump.
-remove pump from the unit , seperate the bag from the old pump.
-install the bag on the new pump along with the 2 plastic pieces that hold it firm in the plastic box , they dont quite fit properly , just make it work , lol. youl have to cut the outlet part of one piece right off leaving the top of the pump open. you wont be using any of the pieces that were on the outlet of the old pump(rubber O ring and such)
-youl have to cut the bottom half of the plastic case where the outlet snout of the new pump is for the rubber line to come through.
-install and hoseclamp a foot long piece of 3/8 fuel line to the pump , plug pump in , and put the 2 halves of the bottom tank together again , making sure the pump is sitting in its holders.
-now grab the top part of the unit. youl need to drill a hole in the top , youl see pretty plainly where to do it , they somewhat marked the spot that can be used , lol. drill a hole to install your bulkhead fitting , seal and install the bulkhead fitting , make sure its sealed.
-now put together the top and bottom parts of the sending unit again. cut to length and run the rubber hose comming from the new pump to the bulkhead fitting.
----you dont have to do this but i did. the top part has 2 plastic ports stock inside the tank side. one the old pump fed too , and the other one is the return line that went to the old regulator , than to the plastic fitting i told you to keep. i blocked off the old feed port , and ran a fuel line from the return port(the one directly under the stock plastic outlet on top of the unit) , to the plastic fitting i told you to keep at the start located on the bottom shooting the returned fuel to the pump and bag. you dont have to do this really , you can leave both ports open and let them shoot into the tank. -----
-now you should have your pump secure in the bottom , rubber line from it to the BH fitting. and a rubber line from the return port to the bottom plastic fitting if you choose to do that.
-make sure all wiring is back in place.
-make sure the plastic pump housing sits at a 90degree with the 2 arms connected to the top part , so it sits flat in the tank. the rubber lines can restrict its movement.
-once its all good , the fun part , getting the bastard back in the tank , haha. be patient , use as little force as possible , it will go. reinstall the ring and rubber gasket , tighten securely.
-run a 90degree fitting off the top of the BH fitting , run your new feed line from it , down under the car where the stock feed line is , which will now be your return line.
-clip the stock feed line back onto its port on the sending unit.
-fasten the new feed line to the underbody of the car , make sure its high and not gonna rub on anything , i used tie straps to attach it to the existing lines down there.
-mount your regulator under the hood. run your new feed line to one end of the fuel rail , and comming off the other end of the fuel rail to the sie port of the regulator.
-run another rubber hose from the bottom port of the regulator(return) , to the stock feed line under the hood , use 2 clamps , make sure its clamped tight and theres no leaks.
heres what your gonna do.

Converts the EP3's returnless type fuel system to a return-type, allowing you to use aftermarket fuel pumps that require such.

yeah pictures for this are very helpful. Even boosted now I don't have the hickups in the fuel system needed for a return system. If I was turbo I would
