EP3 Stock Muffler?
I've got a '03 Civic Si that needs a new muffler. I was told by my dealership that the stock muffler is discontinued and is no longer available for my car. Then I called up Honda North America and they said that there was a Honda muffler available for my car but with a different part number. They gave me a stock number of 18030-S5P-A01 for it. However, after entering that part number on a Honda parts website with pictures, that stock number is actually for a '02-'05 Civic EX and with a single tailpipe. How would that affect my car's performance?
Then I go to the myhondapartsstore site tonight and they seem to have an '02 EP3 muffler in stock with part number 18030-S5T-A00 marked discontinued but allowing me to place one in my shopping cart. So Is this a real EP3 muffler or just another Civic EX muffler?
I just want a stock sounding quiet exhaust system on my car.

Re: EP3 Stock Muffler?
Thanks. I actually have two extra used mufflers sourced from craigslist that have less surface rust on them then that eBay one. Does anyone have any idea how long a muffler that looks like that one would last me? I will be doing mostly long highway commutes, and not too many short trips.
I live in New England, so my concern is that with all the winter road salting... who knows how long these old mufflers will last me. I kind of want to start off with a new exhaust system and then not have to think about any repairs to the car for a long time.

Re: EP3 Stock Muffler?
BTW I came across this used EP3 muffler on eBay this morning and I thought it too rusty to buy at $139.95.

those are pretty cheap considering they're oem and still look to be in great shape.
they will last a long time, especially since you have two extras, I don't see what the concern is.
if you want a brand new exhaust, then buy one.

Or you could upgrade to this:
Vibrant Performance ::.
looks similar to the EP3 exhaust just has a deeper sound to it. I had it on my EP3 and loved!

Re: EP3 Stock Muffler?
If you really want stock, then take the better of your two that you already have and get it ceramic coated. It will hold up to the winter longer than a non-treated one, and will sound just like stock because it is stock.
Nothing sounds like stock that isn't, really.
Though I'd be more concerned about your cat failing than I would be the muffler.

I said I don't want a title!
Re: EP3 Stock Muffler?
It probably hasn't been mentioned in a while, but the stock EP3 muffler is a fantastic flowing unit (proven on the dyno--the thread probably still exists here if you search). It will not hurt your HP unless you start making bigger numbers.
It's the stock B-pipe that's the killer.
The only reason to not run a stock EP3 muffler is if you're going after a different exhaust sound. But that's easily cured by using a larger B-pipe with no resonator.
