Building a DC5 Track Car @ Showoff Imports, Project DC5
I posted it a while ago on K20a.org but I want to share our project with you Honda Tech guys also
A summary of the project so far:
Projectdc5.com - Building a DC5 Track Car @ Showoff Imports
I'm Ronald, owner of Showoff Imports.nl
Started this company 10 years ago and we have now grown to one of the leading shops for aftermarket parts for japanese cars, in The Netherlands (Europe). Back then I started with honda only, but now we also have stuff for nissan, subaru, mazda etc.
Some images/info:
Our shop:
http://www.showoffimports.nl/pages.php?pageid=3
FACES (including me):
http://www.showoffimports.nl/pages.php?pageid=19
In the last 12 years I had a CRX ED9 and EE8, civic 1994 coupe, integra DC2 Type-R, and a DC5 (japanese import). For daily drive also a dodge magnum hemi still.
But let's talk about our latest project:
Bought the DC5 about 5 years ago and now it is time to take the car to a whole new level.
It was the first DC5 in the Netherlands and now it will be the first one built for trackuse overhere.
I will update the project on this forum as well, hope that it interests people.
You can find all info and updates on the website we launched for it:
PROJECTDC5.COM (link to the website)
This is how the car WAS untill last week, we already used it for time attack but it has to go to a completely different level now with a FULL REBUILD!
Right now we are taking everything out of the car, stripping it completely, which is quite some work te begin with.
The cage has been ordered and will be welded in in our workshop here:
The car will be built for Time Attack series overhere. We already participated in the series with the DC5 almost stock (except some bolt-ons).
I will update the SPECLIST soon when we have our final one. But for now you have to take my word for it: Almost EVERYTHING will be replaced or improved where possible. The plans for the engine are also being made now!
Enjoy and any comment if welcome!

Time for some updates here
Due to the summer season with all the meetings and stuff we didn’t had much chance to make progress on the car. We are getting there but sometimes it goes slow.
CUT SOME METAL!!!!
So... last night we cutted the fenders
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6j7-UEIErFs
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PeRcFOYgwQU
And we cutted some parts of the underbody
Welding some parts back together, including the fenders:

See http://www.projectdc5.com > updated again.
Wide body
To make the DC5 more like a proper race-car we chose to change the entire look with a wide-body-kit. People have to notice some serious work is being done to our project. Since there are only a few wide-bodies for the DC5 we had little to choose from. We think the current one is the best looking one. It really was a pain to get it on the car. And for now it’s only on, the painter has a lot of work coming his way!

Black Gold - Weight Loss
It was obvious that there would be al lot of “black gold” on our race car. Showoff Imports is the biggest European dealer of Seibon carbon therefore of course some nice products to show our customers. The hood already was carbon fibre but it was painted, we chose a new one. To save some weight on the back end the trunk should be replaced, carbon, what else! Probably the top peace of our carbon mania, the doors. They look great in real life, you have to trust me on that. Hard to capture on a photo but we sure tried.
Glass is also very heavy on a car, we replaced all the windows, except the front one (for now), with polycarbonate ones. They are made beautifully, just like the oem windows, just a hell of a lot lighter!

Another update:
http://www.projectdc5.com/garage/cho...ongen#more-677
In order to make room for the exhaust we extended the tunnel all the way to the back seat, or what ever was the back seat. The intention is to make the car’s bottom flat, to run the exhaust to the back, half way to the back that is, we had to extend the tunnel. It was time to start chopping!!
In the back of the car, between the two back wheels, the new fuel cell has to be placed. We picked up a nice and shiny aluminium fuel cell. We didn’t know at the time an aluminium one wasn’t any good for E85 bio-ethanol. Because that is the fuel we are going to run we had to change the tank for a plastic example. Ronald ordered a nice big fuel cell at summit racing. We don’t need the original tank any more so we needed to make a steel container that we could weld in the bottom to fit the fuel cell into. OK than, let’s chop some more!

Kinda suprized a how little work you are doing on the suspension. With some 275+mm slicks, you are still going to get 4ws with the polly bushings....for example....here is what realtime started with on their rsx,,,,
they ended up here.....
they redesigned the rear lca so there was no flex and the motion ratio went from .588 to one to about .85 to one
their ft suspension looked like this.....
I do not have any pics of the tops of the struttowers but they were right aganst the hood for added travel......
some english nutjob put this in the back of an ep3....
Yes, thats a accord front spindel in the back of an ep3.....
What spring rates you planing on using in that thing?
