Default AEM CAI and CEL problems..

So I installed a AEM CAI on my type-s and when I start my car, the Maint'd req icon blinks for a few seconds then turns off. But then if I go past 6k rpms within a minute or 2 of the car starting, the i-Vtec wont initialize. Im guessing it needs to warm up because usually the second time I try to go past 6k rpms it goes off.

But then another problem. It seems that my car is rev limiting at 8200-8300 rpms and wont go past that. I know I really shouldnt go past that much when driving but it just bothers me that it should be rev limiting at 9k instead of 8200-8300.

Does anyone have any suggestions on whats going on with my car? Im pretty sure I did everything with the CAI right on cause its a pretty simple install minus the whole cutting and water bottle replacement.

edit: its a maint'd req icon and not CEL.. same **** though i guess..

Well A) You can not engage vtec until the car is at operating temperature. Thats for safety. You really should be getting on it anyways until its warmed up.

B) Do you have K-pro? If not you wont' go past 8200. Most of us run K-pro and thats why we can go to 9000rpm because you can change the rev limiter. But if CAI is your only mod 9000 is a waste of RPM's because you will fall out of your power ban.

C) Maintenance light is not same as CEL. One is a dealership light the other is a warning light. Maintenance light could be just a service light for having so many miles.

Your stock valve train wasn't made to handle high RPM turning aka 9k+.

You need to either change your oil and reset your maintanence light. If you have changed your oil before then you just need to reset your maintanence light </TD></TR></TABLE>
I just added a little input on my part but for the most part.. he's correct.

Ah ok, so basically what youre saying is that my car is fine except changing the oil. Im actually coming up on my oil change in a few hundred miles so I'll check that out. I guess I never really noticed that until I actually tried paying attention to my engine once i put on the CAI. Thanks a bunch guys.. I just wanted to make sure everything was ok and I didnt need any immediate attention. I just bought my rsx a few months back and I want to keep it in top shape.
