2002 Honda Integra K20A3
Hi, My name is Dustin,
I am in the United States Air Force Active Duty and I just arrived on Okinawa, Japan. I joined the forums because I am looking at buying a 2002 Honda Integra, with a K20A3 engine. I know a decent amount about cars in general, just never really got into Honda motors. I grew up with 3 mechanics in my immediate family so most of my childhood consisted of working on 6/8 cylinder motors or just general maintenance on cars.
My questions about the Integra are:
1. Is I-VTEC worth it? I drove my ex-girlfriends civic EX with a D16YB in it and VTEC has had my interest ever since. Is I-VTEC the same VTEC?
2. I have talked the guy down form 6890 to 5000. Does this sound like a decent price?
3. Is there any reason I should not get this car?
4. If I do get the car, what should be my first upgrades?
5. If there is anything else that I should know about this please let me know it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You,
Dustin

it depends on how far you wanna take it. I'd say if you just want a DD, buy it and add the reflash or go Kpro. that will show a bit of a difference on the base model. depends on what future plans you have with a car like this.

1. Two types of i-Vtec if it was to be complicated. Jist of it is a much more advanced vtec which began with the k series. The base model you have will probably be the 'economy' ivtec - less grunt and not like the performance models like type s, type r etc.
2. Not from your region, couldn't comment sorry
3. Depends on what you want it for. If you want it for fun and some power, maybe even the S15 Spec S? the blue one in the picture might be more of your thing. The Base model is probably imo not as great. Biased as I own a Type R version.
Compared to a civic ep3, I would take the integra anyday. If there was substitution, I'd get a tidy DC2 ITR.
4. If you have already bought it, don't fret. Still a nice reliable car. First mods are usually, Intake, Exhaust, then probably as people have said a Kpro. Research what this is. Also with intake, its probably more safe to just leave the stock intake on and get a nice filter. Exhaust is probably the best bolt on then comes Kpro for bang for buck.
5. DC5 is definitely a fun car, you will enjoy it but if you were looking for something more in performance, id move away from the base model

go to hondata.com, pull out your ecu and make sure yours is compatible for a reflash, otherwise just shop around online for a ecu w/ Kpro. if you're making big changes to your car, get Kpro first, you'll need it, if just a few bolt ons just go with a reflash

Re: 2002 Honda Integra K20A3
What Kpro am I going to look for? Being that its a Japanese car?
Also I am a little confused of the exact description. The only thing I can find on google is type r when I search for the Honda integra. The info I noticed when I looked at the car was k20a3 on the block. And dc5 on the description plate under the hood. The way I understand it is I do not have the type r and the dc5 is the base model? I guess I'm confused on the terminology/description of the motor.
Thanks

Re: 2002 Honda Integra K20A3
The Type R would pretty much have factory Red Recaros for the Championship White, Red interior, brembo front calipers, big rear wing, different body kit to the one you have pictured.
For the engine, easiest way to start is the red top head. Obviously will be more complex as to identify a K20a 220 hp JDM one. but with k20a3 thats a normal base model.
I'm not too familiar yet with the Kpro but go look on the Hondata website. There are lots of fakes out there now..
EDIT: Your picture has a red intake and plug cover not red head btw.

Re: 2002 Honda Integra K20A3
I looked on the Hondata website and I didn't see any authorized dealers in Okinawa, Japan. What are my options as far as getting one? Also how much am I going to pay for a new Kpro? Just so I can plan on how much I am going to be spending? One last question; Should this be my first performance upgrade? Will I notice a big difference?
Thanks, First Honda so trying to learn about them quickly.

Can anyone tell me if this looks like a legit Hondata or not? Also, how is the website as far as prices/quality of the parts? First time Honda owner here.

Re: 2002 Honda Integra K20A3
So just to clear things up, This car is neither a Type-S, and I know it's not a Type-R; So are these parts interchangeable? When I look up parts most everything is for Type-S/Type-R. My understanding is that this car is neither, and is just the base model. Can anyone clear this up for me?
Thank You,
Dustin
