Default 02-05 Ep3 Civic Si and k20a2 swap questions

ok so my bro got a 02 civic si ep3 shell (theft recovery) for dirt cheap. he is now in the market for a k20a2 rsx type s swap. Now the ep3 is missing everything motorwise including the shifter box and cables. Now since he will be using the 6 spd tranny will he have to use the buddy club shifter? I have searched and havent got a clear answer. Also he wants to do the 5 lug conversion from the rsx. Is it easier to get the 04-05 ep3 5 lug or the 02-04 rsx type s? All help is greatly appreciated

If he uses the 6 spd tranny, he will need to make a notch in the shifter for the 6th gear, or you can just buy the bcss. For the 5 lug conversion from the rsx you will also the the axles since the spline is bigger.

He might need to shave the shifter.

Truth. Do the rsx-s 5 lug to get the 11.8" front rotors.

Also you'll need ep3 shift linkage. Use the ep3 idler pulley in replacement of the rsx-s power steering pump. You can use the rsx-s engine harness with no modifications. You can buy a 64" 7-ribbed s-belt or use the stock ep3 one with no modification. People say you shouldn't - it is on the edge of spec but I have for 12,000 miles with no problems. Get a race header and the exhaust will bolt up - if you use the rsx-s em and downpipe you'll need custom work. You can run the k20a2 on the k20a3 ecu (under 4k rpms) if you need to drive to Acura and get your PRB ecu reprogrammed.

I've done this swap and if you have any more questions let me know.

I thought some people didn't have to do anything to their shifter on their 02-03s? (OP has an 02)

I know it's possible to run the a3 kpro'd ecu on a k20a2 but I don't know where you get it reprogrammed. Talk to usmc39273, he is doing an a2 swap with a kpro'd a3 ecu. You won't have reverse lock out with a k20a3 kpro'd ecu though (electronic lock out so you grind reverse while trying to shift into 6th).

Sort of on-topic, but this information seems scarce. (Or I'm looking in the wrong places)

For an a2 engine swap into an EP3, an RSX-S ecu will plug right into the EP3 car? From there, you can either k-pro or leave it stock, correct? No wiring to do as long as you're using the stock a2 engine harness?

I figured someone would have a writeup on EVERYTHING that needs to be done for this swap SOMEWHERE on the internet. Maybe I just can't find it. I like looking at pictures

No wiring needed at all but you'll need to go to Acura to reprogram if you don't have pro.

I have some pictures here and an informal write up (need to be an EPhatch member): http://www.ephatch.com/forum/s...43806

First post here, so forgive me if I'm in the wrong thread... I have a 2002 Si, bone stock. 160k Miles, new clutch by previous owner @ 100k. Excellent condition, daily driver. The tranny started making noise on my way home from Christmas, and it made it home but just barely. The noises seemed to stop (at first) by putting the clutch in, but now it seems that putting in the clutch loads the engine to the stalling point, and it is nearly impossible to restart, as I have the clutch in to do so. When I would get it started again, I would have to throttle to 1500 rpm to keep it running long enough to wait out a stoplight, etc.

A) Any guesses what's wrong in there?
B) Is it possible to do an RSX 6-speed swap as a purely straight bolt-on job?
C) Any idea what it's worth in current condition? I know lots of people would like one for the engine-and-tranny swap as in this thread...

Any advice appreciated.

...And then the bad news...

I ordered a replacement tranny (stock SI) and got the car dragged to a shop. They discovered that the engine is seized tight. Frozen solid. No idea if tranny is even affected, although the symptoms before it died were exactly like described in several 'Honda 5-speed making noises' threads I discovered.

Soooo.... I have a stock 2002 si with 161k miles, a dead engine, a known good replacement tranny, and a tranny in the car that for all I know is working fine.

Suggestions? I need the car running as cheaply as possible as soon as possible - I'd love to do all kinds of mods, but driving a rental car is getting expensive, not to mention boring.
