In Japan looking for an NSX....
I'm stationed in Japan right now and I've been looking to get a vehicle. I've toyed with the idea of picking up a used NSX here, I was just wondering if anyone had any experience in buying a car in Japan and how much do you think I'd be looking the cough up for a 91-95 NSX. I don't think I can afford and NSX-R even if it is that old, but I'm sure a regular NSX would be just fine.
Any ideas?

NSXs are a lot more expensive in Japan than in US. Also, registration/inspection is quite expensive...probably upwards of $1000-2000 per year(?). I can't remember if it's annual or bi-annual.

I'd so some looking around the http://www.nsxcj.com site or the Japanese Yahoo auctions. Nevermind, ak's link is much better.

Used cars in japan are extremely expensive to keep insured and titled/licensed.
Why not get a new car? Or VERY slightly used car.

Hahaha...Japanese translates awful. ie. "All your base are belong to us" or " The clutch feeling which exceeds common sense." Yeah.
And you're a boob, you putz.

Damn, thanks for all the replies and the great websites. I can't believe how expensive the NSX's are over here!! Well I guess I'll do like everyone else does here in Japan and get a Skyline GTS or GTR for about 5k. I guess that will hold my fix until I get back to the states.
As for the insurance and registration fees, since I hold a Japanese professional drivers license and military, I only have to pay registration fees once every 3 years which also includes insurance, unfortunately that increases along with the value of the vehicle. So basically anywhere from $500 to $1300...

Re: (Blue-Civic-Hybrid)
It's interesting though that most of other used cars are very cheap. You'll find Type-Rs and Silvias for much less than $10k. I would go for something like that for now if money is a factor. Good condition GT-Rs are still not too cheap but affordable. G

Yeah, but Skylines are like Civics back in the States here in Japan, everyone has one here or has owned one. What is really interesting is the price of Type-R's, still more expensive than a Silvia or GTS Skyline and some cases a GTR R32. Still used Type-Rs go from 6 to 10k while Silvias and Skylines can be had from 1k to 5k.
The reason I was asking the price is becuase I just want to pay for the whole car in cash, but I guess I'll just have to wait till I come back.
As for the gas prices, it's always been cheaper on base for gas even in the states. We in the military don't really get paid such handsome sums of money, so the Exchange and the Commisary and even the gas stations are a way to help us get by on our meager paychecks.
Don't worry, I'm sure they'll find a way to raise the prices soon...

Because nissans are ******* garbage and Hondas are a decent product. Auto NSX's are pretty cheap but a manual tranny is going to demand some coin.
Look for a Mk4 Supra, those should start around $12-13k for a decent one.

Re: (8k-red-DC2)
FC/FD's are cheap too, but they have a mean tendency to explode around 80,000kms. If you can find one with a rebuilt engine, do it.
Otherwise supra. Make sure it's a MK4. The MKIII twin turbos are tempting, but they have head gasket failures.
You can never go wrong with a honda, of course. ITR insurance in japan is a killer though...

When I was in Deutschland last year, I saw at least 20 red, white, and black CTRs around Stuttgart and Salzburg. I swore to myself that I'd get one (black) if those buttwads at Honda ever shipped them over. Cute little buggers.

Re: (Ponyboy)
I have a couple of people I know over here on the ship that can get into the auto auctions and they have been telling me just go there I can pick up a car for a really decent price. I would still like to get a ITR or CTR, but I really would like to try something new, and the prices for these Silvias and GTR's are just too tempting to pass up.
If I see a MK4 Supra going for a decent price, I might think about that also. Thanks for the suggestions and recommendations, keep them coming
I'm starting to really fall for the little Stepwagons and Wagon R's, those little turbo 3 cylinders are a hoot!!

As funny as those things look, they are really kinda fun to drive. Check out an old alto works, you can probably get one for $600
One of these with a Hayabusa engine.....oh.....tent forms in pants

Re: (Accord94DX)
That is exactly what I am talking about. I really like the idea that they are K-cars, registration is cheap and they get great gas mileage!! I also like the fact that the back seats can be taken out and I can use it for cargo by hauling stuff from the junkyards!!
I just might have to look a little closer at those Suzuki Wagon R's and the Alto Works versions... 3 cylinders and turbocharged!!

Whats wrong with a CTR for 8-9k?
Although I guess the braggin rights would be just as good for the Suzuki!!!
Overall though, the CTR would be quite an experience (one that most people on here have dreams about)...cant say ive had a dream about a Suzuki!
