'95 nsx-t for sale, is it legit??
Well guys, I currently drive an old s13 chassis 240sx (on a friends screen name if you're wondering ) and was browsing around looking at used nsx's. Ive found this one, and its SUPER cheap, however im not too sure if its legit or not. Are there any common problems I should look out for when purchasing. I hear a lot about this 'snap ring' although I have no idea what it is?? If there is some obvious major flaw that i'm just missing, please point it out so I dont fly out there and buy a busted up car- Rob

Did you forget to include a link?
Whenever you see a price that looks too good to be true, it probably is.
Beware of scams. A common scam these days is for someone to post a car for sale on eBay, Autotrader, and other big sites, at a ridiculously low price - but they are scammers who don't actually own the car, and steal the VIN and photos from ads that other people run.
Two ways to help determine whether someone is legit:
1. Ask to arrange to have the car inspected, either by a local dealer or a local NSX owner.
2. Get a phone number and address for the seller and verify that it's legitimate.
Oh, and if the seller says that the car is not in North America, but claims they have a U.S. (or Canadian) spec car, then it's definitely a scam.
As for the snap ring issue, it wouldn't change the market value by more than a grand or two. You can find out about it by looking in the NSX FAQ, using the link in the topic at the top of this forum. Click on Troubleshooting, then on Transmission.

Let me give you a quick lesson in buying used NSX.
Super cheap NSX = SCAM
cheap NSX = Poorly maintained and/or high miles
regular priced NSX = probably well maintained but depends
overpriced NSX = probably well maintained but depends

Re: (ringerracer)
here's the car he's talking about, and followed by the email I got back from him.

Email:
Hi,
Thank you for your interest in purchasing my car (1995 Acura NSX TARGA).
I have worked in USA for the past 6 months and I purchased the car there.
My company wanted me back home, so currently I'm in UK.
I didn't bring it home with me because the car's steering wheel is on the left side, and so it's
difficult driving it around the UK.
The vehicle is in good condition, has no technical damage at all, no scratches or dents, no hidden
defects, no smoking, remaining warranty available. Buy it now price is 8,000 USD (including shipping&insurance taxes).
It's fun and robust to drive.Technical inspection and emissions testing is passed and stamped as well.
It has title of ownership, cleared of any obligations or fees and comes with all the documents you need to
register it.
The car is now located at the AutoTrader.com warehouse in Denver, Colorado.
The car will be shipped and insured by AutoTrader.com and Square Trade.
AutoTrader.com will act as a 3rd party for our transaction.
You will not have to pay additional taxes for this. To be able to receive or pick up the car you'll have
to make a $2,800.00 deposit. After you inspect the car if anything seems wrong you'll be able to receive a
refund from AutoTrader.com.Please send me your full name and shipping address to forward them to AutoTrader.com.
They will contact you with all the information you need. Thanks for your interest, please feel free to email me
any questions or concerns you may have.
Respectfully,
Michael
Tell us what you guys think...cuz I'm looking at getting the car as well.

Yes, that's the same scam that's been floating around for several years now. They're always somewhere in Europe; the UK, Spain, Italy, Greece, and Germany have all been the claimed locations for these fictitious cars. Now it sounds like they claim that the car is here, but they're there. In either case, you will be sending money out of the country, where you will have no recourse when you find out that it's a scam.

Autotrader.com does not have a warehouse.
Tell him that you would like to have a friend come by and take a look at the car in person at the "Autotrader.com warehouse". Remember, any time a seller of a car refuses to let a prospective buyer look at it, that's a huge red flag.

Re: (nsxtasy)
Hey, thanks for the insight, but there's no need to laugh at me and make fun of me for wanting to jump on an 8k$ NSX...it's not out of the realm of possibilities, you know.
Story time.
My friend was in the military and while he was stationed in Ft. Benning, he stumbled across a Yellow Fararri 512TR for sale for $9000. Amazed, he called the number on the for sale sign, and learned that Daddy had bought it for his son, and the son went out and caused too much trouble in the car. Long story short, Daddy was selling the car for $9000 to teach Jr a lesson. Yes, he could have sold the car for WAY more, but in relation to the NSX thing, you never know what you're comming across. Hell, I saw the ad and thought, "Blown Motor" After emailing the guy to see what was up, that was the response I got.
So, once more, why laugh and make fun when I was just double checking, and shedding some light on the thread?

Hey, I can tell a story, too, one that sounds just like yours:
A man answers a classified advertisement offering an "almost new" Porsche for the ridiculously low price of $50 and finds that the woman really is selling the car so cheaply, because her husband ran off with a younger woman and asked her to sell the car and send him the money.
You can read more about this story here.
Of course, telling a story doesn't make it true. These stories are called "urban legends" because they're not true, but they make the rounds because people want to believe that they're true, and because the stories are entertaining and often humorous. That's the whole point - these scammers sometimes succeed in stealing money from suckers like you exactly because such victims are gullible because they want these stories to be true. Even though they never are.

Because you weren't just double checking. Based on your prior post, you were seriously interested in sending money to a scammer, despite being told that it's a scam. And yet you still think that stories like this are for real, even after you're told (twice) that they're not. Which is even funnier, if you ask me.
Of course it is.

Re: (nsxtasy<--aka the ******* in this thread)
Ok, I'm trying to add to this thread in a helpful way...You're being a DICK. I'm no ******* moran, and perhaps I worded it incorrectly to say that I was double checking, but I'm gonna tell you flat out, you're an ***. There's no need for it. Really, I'm proving what you said to be true, and trying to help the gentleman that STARTED this thread, so if all you have to say is sarcastic **** to me, then why don't you **** off. I'm sure you have much more important things to be doing with your time. Oh, and about my story, it's not something I heard from a guy who heard from a guy, this was my close friend who saw the car for sale himself. You can believe it or not, I don't ******* care, personally, but because I'm actually ADDING things to this thread, here's the latest from our scammer...again, this is for the OTHER guy...you know, the one that had a question in the first place? Thanks for understanding.
I emailed him back saying that I had a cousin in Denver, and that he was going to go by and look at the car if he'd send my Autotrader's address for their warehouse. Here's our scammer's reply to my email.
"Sir,
Because the car's steering wheel is on the left side, and so it'sdifficult driving it around the UK. And i have some financial problems.Because i`m in UK , i will mke this deal with you through autotrader because is safe for me.I want to make the deposit before your cousin will see and verify the car , for i`ll be sure that you have the serious intention.
The car is already crated with all the papers inside signed by me and ready to go at the shipping company. I want you to know that Autotrader verified all the transaction details and approved me to crate the car. The car will have insurance and will be delivered at your door without you being charged one penny more. Along with the car, you will receive the all the documents that I have for the car -- the title (which is issued in US, is clear of any liens and I have it in hand). Due the fact that the car's title was issued in US you will have no problem in registering the car. So, the car is still available for sale and if you are really interested to buying this baby please let me know if you can offer $8,000 I will be very honored to make the deal with you.
The total price for the car will be $8,000 ($2800 deposit) and if you will pay for the money transfer fees to my location approx.$200 i will pay for the shipping taxes to your door.
So, if you are really interested on buying the car please REPLY WITH YOUR FULL NAME AND ADDRESS so i can initiate the transaction at Autotrader and Square Trade and they will manage all the finacial and shipping details.
Mail me soon and let me know if you are interested.
Kind Regards! "
I've got his email address...is there anyone I can turn him in to? Oh, and nsxtasy, you probably don't really need to reply to this, as your answers no longer count.

Translation of the scammer's reply: "I think that I can dream up an excuse why you can't see the car in a warehouse that I know doesn't exist, and maybe you'll believe it. Yes, the fellow that I've been helping with my information about how these scams are run.

Translation of the scammer's reply: "I think that I can dream up an excuse why you can't see the car in a warehouse that I know doesn't exist, and maybe you'll believe it. I'm trying to make you think that cars are shipped in crates, even though they're not. The amount that I'm trying to swindle from you is $2800, which I think is a nice amount for me to get, but not so much that the authorities would bother trying to track me down. I'm still hoping that you're stupid enough to fall for it."

Are you trying to make yourself feel like you're better than me because you haven't used a cuss word? Wow, you remind me of someone I know that has a self supremicy complex...and guess what. NOBODY LIKES HIM! Enjoy your day. I hope you get hit by a bus.

I have a better idea...why don't you stop being so rude. Maybe then I'd stop. I guess it didn't cross your mind that I'm insulting you because of the way you are treating me, did it? Of course not. You're better than me, I forgot.

Not bloddy likely.
Just go buy the car, who cares what WE say, right?
Finding a deal like this is a once in a lifetime thing. It prays on peoples cheap nature. He's NOT going to let you inspect the car, ever. If he does, buy it.
Anyway this thread has far outlived it's usefullness and noone ever uses common sense anymore.
