Default Who can get my a JDM B series starter?

Well, the Spoon flywheel doesn't match well with my USDM GSR starter. So, time to replace it with a JDM starter. Basically, can anyone get my a JDM B series starter? Also, I heard that he Del Sol starter is JDM and works with JDM flywheel wheels.

Thanks,
Adam

dude..
where the hell did you hear THAT BS from?
The spoon f.wheel will work with ANY b-series starter. There's no such thing as a 'JDM only' starter...

Can you be a little less vauge in your description of how your starter doesn't match up with the spoon f.wheel?

wha'd you do? just compare it out of the car? or was it all installed? more info..

hah....man, some rumors...

Katman,

Actually, the JDM flywheels (JUN) have a different teeth pattern. I think Toda is the only 100% compatible JDM flyweel.

Anyway, YES I do have the Spoon flywheel installed in my car. And I have problems with it. To blantly put it, sometimes my car doesn't start. It just makes a loud noise (like the sound of a motor). It would take me like 3-6 more times to actually start the car. This problem ONLY happened AFTER I installed the flywheel.

Not rumors ...

Anyway, can someone get me a good deal on a JDM Integra starter?

Thanks.

I'm going to have to back up BlackGSR on this one,

I too had the Spoon flywheel starter problem and it was pointed out to me that a B16 starter would do the trick. Apparently, some of the B18's came from the factory with the same starter as the B16's while the others had a slightly different model. The B16's starter protrudes further out than some of the other B18C starters and hence catches the flywheel better. It also explains why some people on this board that have the Spoon flywheel swear that they never experience this problem while other suffer daily from it.

Don't ask me for the part numbers, cause I don't know. Nor can I get BlackGSR a JDM/B16 starter. Just sharing my experiences.

Uhhh... the JUN flywheel's teeth are not cut like the OEM ones and thus it grinds on the starts sometimes. It has nothing to do with teeth patterns.

Peace...

I've had the flywheel drama with the crunching and grinding....I'm SURE I put the starter in correctly too..... some people have it..and some don't.....

here's what I did.... I took the B18C DENSO starter out and replaced it with a B16A MITSUBA starter from an SiR/Si and bingo everything is all happy.

there IS a difference though....the 16A takes a little while longer to crank over the internally heavier 18C...while my friend enjoys lightning starts on his 16A!.....

This is ever more evident when you are doing a compression test...with the Mitsuba starter on my car....it sounds like the battery is dead all the time....

When you compare them side to side...you will see the Mitsuba input shaft is different than that of the Denso.... My flywheel was nicely chipped because it kept on grinding on the starter teeth... what fun.....

My tech tip of the century for you guys.....

well I'll contend your 'not rumors' statment.....
but, as far a the Jun f.wheel goes I heard of teeth issues arising, such as the tips of the teeth wearing out - but getting a so-called JDM starter isn't gonna solve the problem. My friend has a Spoon flwyheel in his B-series and it's never had problems at all with his 'US starter'. In fact I'm running some kind of unknown JDM billet f.wheel and I've never had a single starter problem either...

weird...everybody has their engine quirks.

35mugen,

So to your knownledge, the USDM B16a starter will work? The starter is not grinding on the flywheel, but is not catching. Thus you hear the sound of a motor (starter).

So, again the USDM B16a starter is a little longer than the B18 starter?

Thanks

Yep,

Changed mine over to a B16 starter along with a new Spoon flywheel and everything's been fine since. I had to change to a new Spoon flywheel because when we removed the old one, about 50% to 60% of the teeth had been partially shaved off by the OEM B18C starter. It wasn't a pretty sight.

If you're experiencing this starter problem only once in a blue moon, the odds are that your flywheel is still salvageable. If you grind more than once a day, I would say that your Spoon flywheel might need to be replaced.

When I have starting problems, I don't hear any "grinding" noise. Just noise from the starter motor. Like you said eariler, the starter is a tad too short for the flywheel.

Well, let's keep our fingers crossed and hope my Spoon flywheel is not dead.
