What grade oil?

What grade oil?
Hi guys,
I have a 97 JDM ITR with about 121,000 KM on the dash, I'm just wondering what grade oil you recomend me using? I think the rings on the car have gone bad because it smokes under WOT and I can smell oil, I usually use Castrol, thinking of switching to Mobil 1.

Castrol Syntec 5w30. I've tried everything from Mobil to Redline and it seems that the Castrol is by far the best. That is, in my humble opinion.

Re: What grade oil?
Oil treatments are typically worthless for use with premium synthetic oils. Just take the money you would spend on the treatment and buy some brand name full synthetic.
Also, for ANYONE interested in oil, oil filters, fuel additives, oil additives, etc, go to:
www.bobistheoilguy.com
This is THE go to source for oil and oil related info. Period.
Oh and just FYI, I prefer Royal Purple oil and K&N Gold filters, although Royal Purple now has a filter out which uses 100% synthetic filtering material, so I think Ill try that next.

I doubt you will notice anything unless your oil is currently dirty/old as shyte. Using quality oils/filters is typically seen as a plus over long periods of time.

Re: What grade oil?
Should be fine, but since you live in FL where it doesn't get too cold 5W30 might be a better choice. I once again suggest you go to www.bobistheoilguy.com for all your oil related questions.

Aunt Jemima--Butter Rich
(kidding, of course...but a friend of mine told somebody this would stop his car from smoking, and the guy thought he was being serious).
On a more serious note, I use Castrol GTX High-mileage for mine...it's cheaper than most others, and still gets the job done.

After many tries, I use Valvoline Synpower synthetic 5w30 and it works really well. I've got bad rings also and more than 160 000 km. It burns very little compare to Mobil 1 or even dino oil.
