Default Hey, I'm new...

So try to go easy on me...Hehehe

I'm also new to the car I just bought, a PY Type-R. Still kind of in the "can't believe I own one of these" mode but now I'm thinking I want to start learning about this car (traded in a 00 Civic Si). A service manual is definitely in order but I was wanting to know if someone could give some info in the meantime. The car came modified with a AEM CAI, DC ceramic 4-2-1 headers, and some mystery brand short shifter. I really wanted a stock R, but I couldn't pass this car up. Do these parts really make any power on a car so well tuned from the factory? And is there any way to take out some of the play in the shifter? In neutral, it moves left and right quite a bit, kind of feels "loose." Just wondering if this can be tightened from the bottom or something. Thanks for any info!

the bolt on parts it came with make power but minimal. Id say all together around 8-10whp at MOST. For the shifter, i think you can try tightening up the bolt or nut at the bottom of the shifter. Also you might wanna try some Energy Suspension shift bushings for it.

Welcome!

The AEM is more "sound and fury" than HP, but I love mine. ...at least the DC header is lighter than the stock cast iron manifold. I'd find a stock shifter from a junker... maybe some hard bushings would be the only shift upgrade worth doing.

Enjoy it! ...but watch out for the Lift Throttle Oversteer!

It feels loose and you came from an Si? I was in my friend's Si and that was unbelievably loose. If it has an aftermaket one it should feel even tighter. Even if it is a poor engineering design, it shouldn't feel any more loose than it would stock unless of course they switched to a GSR or Si shifter bushing.

The performance upgrades you mentioned are negligible. Is the DC header a JDM version or the USDM version. If it's the USDM version you might have lost power.

Welcome!

Like what other's said. Your bolt on i/h should be good for 5-10 whp. And, change the shifter bushing to ES... that should firm it up a bit.

Lastly, when you get a chance (before you start modding), take it down to a local dyno. It's always good to know what your car puts down... and use that info to gauge the progress.

Last but not least, since you're already in VA, take some time to go down to VIR to meet up with fellow H-T.com members on 12/8/01. You'll see what ITR's can do!

Thanks for the replies! I'm going to look into a bushing kit for the shifter. I forgot to ask the most important question I had. The car came lowered on Neuspeed Race springs (wanted stock springs!) and from what I can tell the stock shocks. I heard that the stock shocks are good, but can they handle the duty of the lower springs? From what I can tell, the springs lowered the car about 1.7" (guessing here). Thanks again.

yeah they will wear the stock shocks out much faster. Switch to full coilovers or find some stock springs to put on there.

I would take off those Neuspeed crap springs immediately. Hope your shocks are in descent condition after the drop... (do you know how many miles the car was dropped for??)

Oh boy, I have no idea how long the car was dropped for. I would take them off, but I don't have the stock springs to put back in! Is there an aftermarket spring I can go to instead of full coilover setup? (Kind of low on money right now...) Thanks.

I bet there's got to be somebody here who has replaced his stock springs with aftermarket ones and would be happy to sell the stock ones to you for next to nothing... If necessary, post a new topic and make sure the title tells what you're looking for.

I probably paid too much but I got the car for 25,000 even. I've heard that's how much they go for brand new. The guy that owned this car obviously had no idea how fine of a machine this car is in stock form (explains all the crap I've been mentioning in previous posts). He managed to put 19,000 miles on it! and then realized that this car is too expensive to make payments on and traded it in for another Integra.

Kind of a side question, does the Type R take a different oil filter than the other B series motors?

Welcome to the special thing that is owning an Acura Intagra Type -R,

You'll both learn to love alot about it and hate some other really stupid stuff that comes with owning one.

Now, young Grasshopper get out and take a racing course/school or do a good Auto Cross/Solo II event.

The car you have in it's stock form is very pure and precise tool, the driver is what must be improved upon and perfected!

Welcome, I myself have learned a lot from this board, and still learning, and if you need anything, a lot of guys/gals here point you to the right direction even though I do not post much, reading from their experiences and insights have made me understand a car that continues to fascinated me.

Noooo.....you could have bought my car for that much. Plus the $8,700 in mods I have put on the car less than 4k miles ago.
