Default Tires mounted at Walmart?

Anyone had tires mounted at Walmart? I got some new tires and need them put on and they only charge $3.50 per tire to mount and balance. The other shops I called were closer to $20/tire. Is there a catch or something Im missing?

they aren't charging you for new valve stems and road hazard warranty, etc.....

Local place charges $20 to dismount and mount new tires - hole in the wall shop that is.....

my Wal-Mart costs more than that.. but it sounds like a good deal..

I had them mount all of my R-compounds and they did a fine job..

Maybe thats just the minimum charge. There could be more associated fees they slap on .......

Its cheap because they don't care about your car. Make sure you are in there watching them do the work. I don't know if it would help or just let you watch while they scratch your wheels to ****.

if you dont care too much about your wheels i say go for it... i have payed almost 60 bux before for a simple mount and balance and no disposal fee because they didnt have to pull the old tires off

I only go to Discount Tire. $12 per tire here(includes everything--disposal, stem, mount, etc).

Well Im back, she failed to tell me that balancing costs 7.50/tire even though I asked her when I called. I also sat there and watched every move they made. I made them bust out a torque wrench also for 80ft/lb total cost was just over $50 which is still cheaper than other places I called. Most places (including discount tire which, surprised me) didnt want me to bring in "outside" tires for whatever reason. They would only install tires if I bought them thru their store. took them awhile but they did a good job. found out 2 of my wheels are bent pretty good though ah well

walmart put my directional tires on wrong so I got screwed on that, plus they will add in a couple other charges in at the end. They can care less about your car and what happens to it, they are there to do a job as quickly as possible. I would never take my car to get tires put on there again.

Costco does them for $10. You have to be a member though. Most locations are getting their Nitrogen hookup now too. Most of the busier tire centers may post signs that they only will install tires purchased from them, or if you know someone.

My brother got rejected at Walmart because they said they don't mount tires with any profile 45 and smaller. Food for thought...

I'm surprised more people don't go to the buddy hookup - a friend who works at a shop, etc who can mount the tires on the side.....

I try to do that as much as possible, and always hook them up with a meal or something out of gratitude.

I'd rather put $ in the pocket of someone I know than some lamer shop...

Discount Tire is good for touchless mounting - if you request it.

Wal-Mart is cheapo, and that can be a good thing - if you don't care if your wheels get scratched.

I wouldn't take my ITR to Wal Fart to get tires mounted, unless I knew someone well there that I trust (which I do).

You might as well take your car to the local high school and get their shop kids busy for a period.

WALLY WORLD AKA walmart has mounted at least 10 sets of tires for me....on 15 inch volks.....all with hoosier/toyo/kuhmo or bridgestone s03's....on 5 different sets of wheels...all without damage!! all for under 45 bucks per set!!

in my opinion this is best deal out there....wally world big company...they damage your wheels....they will pay for them!

i have a lot of friends that work in the tire department at walmart, and i know they care about everyones car. they would never do anything to damage anyones wheels, and they are always careful to make sure everything is done right ie. mounting directional tires, torque spec, air pressure, etc. ive had them mount and balance many tires with no problems. i guess it just depends on where youre at.

This is just like with mechanics and dealer service departments; some are happy to install parts bought elsewhere, others refuse to do so.

There are a couple of reasons why many places won't install parts/tires purchased elsewhere. One is, obviously, they would like to get the profit from selling you the parts/tires. (In their defense, this is part of how they make a living.) Another is, if anything goes wrong, you might blame them for the installation, but it puts them (AND you) in a difficult position if they think it's the part that caused the problem.

Just do what you have to do. If you want to have parts/tires installed from such places, then buy them there. If you want to buy parts/tires elsewhere, then find another place to install them. No big deal...

The local Mercedes dealer put the directional tires on my mom's car backwards

I will probably take my next set of tires to Wal-Mart if they're that cheap. The local tire shack typically charges $40, but I have to listen to him talk **** for an hour about my Tire Rack tires
