Default o1 itr or s2k? or just a plain beat up junkie

this is my situation. ive been stuck on the itr since the day it was manufactured. just so happens every year it got sweeter and sweeter, so now my hearts been set since 2oo1 on owning a black pearl of my own. but.. financially, i should be purchasing a bucket just to be on the safe side. im currently making.. 14oo after taxes, plus a few hundred extra from spinnin, but im also living in a loft in downtown LA where rent is insanely high. ive found one w 29,ooo miles, for 19,ooo. all i need is a cosigner to get this loan, but thats signing away the next four to five years of my life. not just payments everymonth, but on top of that insurance, gas.. its about 8oo a month minimum. do you think its worth it? i do, but everyone around me says i shouldnt do it, i should get a pos because i might crash it since i just turned 2o and ive never owned a car. yet at the same time, ive been driving for the past six years, and i know i wont be driving into some telephone pole or off a cliff face, and i also know that i will not sell the itr in the future if i get it. people say "if you're going to spend that much, why not get a new car, dont get a used." but i dont see the itr as a used car. i see it as a timeless classic, one of which i will not be regretting on purchasing, whereas if i get a new car, two, maybe three years into the payments id be fed up with how "god i shouldve gotten a fqn type r". i know myself, but the decision is.. do i even go for it, or get a older vehicle. or if i do get the itr, should i go for an s2k if im going to spend "that much" money anyway? id have to say my biggest influence on the itr is that one of my closest friends owns one, and i was with him for every single mile up to today.. and im spellbound. ive gone to six different car dealerships in the past two days.. 2acuras,2 hondas, bmw, mercedes,.. the only thing that even remotely caught my attention and took my mind off the R was the s2k.. so yea, if you guys could give me some advice, preferences, experience, that'd be great~

Sounds like this needs to be in the "Financial Planning" Forum.

Bucket would be safer.

I agree, don't be slave for something you don't need. It's a fun car bro but its not special, sorry ITR guys. 19K for a car that cost 24K four years ago? Only if you have plenty of $$$. 19K over 3 years @ 6% = roughly 560 a month. For 560 a month you can get a new(sporty) car w/ warranty.

So is 14oo per month? 560 car + 200 ins + rent/food = your not gonna be happy!

First, have you been in either?
2nd, what brought you to the decision of ITR or S2000?
3rd, can you provide a safe home for either, like a garage?
4th, would you be able to sleep at night if you did not get the ITR?
5th, Hook up with a local R owner and ask them what they think of it.
6th, to tie up a decent amount of your money in a car is not the wise thing to do, but I'm sure there are many people who do it and still live a good life.

Its all up to you and no one else, just be sure to use your head. Owning a ITR is a little bit different then just a standard car, be sure that you can provide it with a good home.

ive driven many r's, but not an s2k.

btw, i love the r for its performance aspect.. that car feels soo good on the pch :D

ive always wanted an itr.. ive loved it since i first sat in one, and i know ill still love it later if i own one. the s2k came up because my bro was saying "u might as well get a new car than a used one".

yea, there will be a garage, trust me, i wouldnt park it outside w.o a gate :T

mh, ive gone to see a few out here in cali, and they just didnt meet my standards. my friend does own one, we took care of that one together. trust me, i know my stuff when it comes to this vehicle. its definantly not ur ordinary car.

oi.. so many things goin on.. wb more later

So it sounds like your pretty set on getting an R, But remeber that if you want to leave it anywhere it might not be there when you get back.

good luck.

You may think a fun car is all you need and want right now, but you will regret it when you're in deep financial trouble.

Save money, get a beater, do what you do, and maybe eventually own 2 or 3 ITRs one day.

i am making 1200 a month right now, lol

i pay 400 a month for my 20k loan on my itr over 5 years
i pay 300 a month for insurance (20 years old, male, 2 tickets)
i also pay for the 93 octane that goes into the car (15 a week)
cell phone (15 a month...i get a nasty deal)
food (100 a month)

but....i live with my dad, so no other monthly fees

i still have a few hundred a month of spending money...

i want a better job, but it's not too bad

if i could go back to the days of my PAID off GSR and have like 800 bucks a month of spending money....

i wouldnt, i love my R too much

ahh LA is a bad area 2 leave ur car... espically downtown ... watch ur gonna come out the grocery store and find nothin... if it is gonna be a part beater might as well just get a crappy car that runs well... cuse debt sucks ... if ur gonna get in debt make it somethin that will not decrease in value everytime u drive it... if it is a reasonable thing try to buy a condo/house a little outside LA they dont cost that much... then work ur way to the ITR or s2k

man let me tell you. do u want it that bad? i live off of 1300 a month but live with parents and i pay for my own bills except house. cell phone, ins, credit card and ITR. i pay $500 for my ITR and like $400 for all the other things a month. about 600 buck left a month because i get a couple of hundreds here and there. if your dedicated to work for 3 to 4 years then go for it. thats what i did. do i regret it..... hell no. no matter what your gonna work, so put that money on something you love besides crack. =0 no other car like it for the money and high resell value. just gotta work harder and stay on top of what you should spend and what you shouldnt spend, you should be good. and about the s2k haha loww resell value, only a couples of years and drop over 10k in value damnnn... ever seen that video where the japanese people turn down the s2k for the Type R? you only live once so do what your hearts tells you to do. when your OLD it doesnt feel the same.
and for $19k what brand new sport car is that??? a turbo neon? a 2004 civic? a mazda 6? hell no.... Love my ITR TOO MUCH TOO. "IF IT AIN'T A TYPE R IT AIN'T A TIGHT CAR"

Default Re: (01BlackTypeR)

Options between TypeR and Sk2. In a lifetime. Lots tend to want the Best. BUt always a little bit of the best on everything tends to add up.

Think this for example. I want to Buy a:

-99-00 Civic Si. $8000
but $3000+ more you can get a
-00-01 Integra GsR! $11000
but for $3000 more you can get a.....
but for $5000 more you can get a...TypeR!!
but for $600 more..you can get sk2!! etc etc etc etc etc

Get the point? For me, enough is enough. You will want something cheap, then you will tend to think for a little more it will be better. Then you keep moving up the ladder.

From experience.. I would consider the type-R a very nice peice indeed. For its price and performance. I would not give up that offer. As you may know, its not a common car you can buy nowadays.. But something getting more rare and rare everyday because to theft/accidents..etc..

For s2k.? Its nice, but yet... Think this. Will it Suite you? How much will you love it? How much will it be for insurance? How will it help your daily needs? Big or Small enough for you to bring your stuff..to Dj in? Etc......You ask yourself that... Follow your heart..

In my opinion, I would go with the typeR anyday! Since seeing me myself, having a gsr. Loving EVERYBIT! of mods on the typeR.
-Lots tend to convert to typeR.. Side moldings shaved, 5 lug conversion, wheels, 98+ conversion, nice leather interior (one of a kind), ITR cams, LSD transmission, amber interior lights, ITR lip, ITR spoiler. You get the idea? ITR is one of a kind all in one package. Its the real Deal! You cant get any better then the original who create it all. b18c5 Powa! -=D

Like i said, do what your heart floats you to. Im sure LOTS and mostly everybody wants and dream of an ITR someday. Why not make it now? If financially your stable to support your Dreams. Then why not go for it?

yes i do want it that bad. driving that car.. i can remember every single time i went for a joyride. being a dj, i love music; thats a given. but i have to say that when im in an r.. all i listen to is the engine. its that special. something about the vtec.

well ive finally worked for a month.. its easy, im a graphic art director so its not hard work.. and (o1blacktyper) you described exactly how i feel.. u too synik. but.. its just.. 14oo a month? can i do it? u think so? i moved out when i turned 16 and turned over my allowance to rent.. because i couldnt stand my parents. if i had saved all that and lived at home, i wouldve had enough money to buy this car w/o a "?".. but i wouldnt have been happy, i probably wouldnt have developed as i have, and i probably wouldnt be making waht im making, *id probably still live at home, not dj, and be bipolar, disfunctional, depressed etc* so.. ah!!! lol there are people out there who think as i do.. thats good to know, thanks for your replies! i just hope i get approved for this loan. ill write more when i can. back to work :T

*dreaming of 186 now*

what do u think the chances of it getting stolen are? even in a garaged underground space? do they really disappear that fast while ur grocery shopping?

i would do it man!!!! dont get either car!!! here is the deal...i too am in a similar situation...i bring home a lil more than 2k per month and i work part time...1400 is not enough income to have that kind of car and live and have fun...im telling u now...and its a damn struggle...

i first owned a 94 integra RS...needed some work...but it was somwthing to get around in...i owned it free and clear and i was gonna do an entire rebuild but i didnt want the down time..so i bought a 96 gsr...lol...wrong move...i then went from not having a car payment to having a $200 month payment plus $225 month car insurance.....then i got a raise at my job so i told myslef hey y not upgrade...lol...i bought a 01 s2k..i now pay in total $700 for the car and insurance... ...dont forget about rent + phone + food + hanging out + the killer of them all....mods!!!!!! not a good look...and dont have a girl friend or its all over..lol...everyday i keep thinking if i just kept my integra RS and did a swap and front end conversion..i would only buy parts and mod it and have cheap insurance... ...but i do love the pimpy s2k..i get compliments all the damn time and i just feel big...but it does come with a price...

if i was in your shoes...i would buy a civic or integra and work on it...the build up is slow as hell esp if u dont have the cash..but your pockets will thank u later... but if u want a nice ride get the s2k...not the ITR cause its a theft magnet...lol...

haha first off the boyfriend situation is on hold.. ive receeded from the relationship for awhile, gonna do my own thing, too much drama going down on home.

yea, it is stressful. but i dont want to modify it ever, i like it stock, clean the way it is. so the mods isnt a cost. the only cost im worried about is.. that its over half of my income. weekends, well, parties are not an issue. i go wherever i want, no questions asked. i go out to get paid, i dont pay to go out :T thats my nightjob as a dj :T fon, food, eh, i know, but i cook and eat at home, i try not to eat out, saves that way, id rather starve and be able to buy records, or in this case, drive. i know i wont want a new car, nor would i do anything crazy. its just, is it worth the risk? im so inbetween, hard to decide. say i dont get it now, what are the chances of me finding a black o1 r w. less than 3o,ooo miles on it in a year> two years?

Are you expecting to drive your car when you go DJing? If you do it won't last a month (probably 2 weeks). So get a beater with an ITR or just get an s2k. I guarantee you it will be stolen if you drive it to clubs and stuff. It's not a question if it will get stolen... it's when.

From what I've been reading on this forum itr's are stolen on a bi-daily basis (or so it seemed for a while). I personally wouldn't get one for that reason. How about getting a nice clean hatch (or coupe, whatever you're into) and putting an itr engine in it? My car looks completely stock so no one messes with it. If it is the body of the itr that you like, then get one, but i would have a beater to take dj-ing and such and keep the itr in a garage.

DJ Elixur,

I was in the same situation, but with one change. I lived at home, well on the side. I had a 94 RS and loved it, in Dec 02 I just finished my exterior work, and by Jan 03 wreck it. I was devestated! And I only had two more car payments. I told myself, I will get another car (Integra of course) just didn't know which model. At the time I decided on the GSR and told myself that the Typr-R was way to out of my league. Looked at some GSR's and started to get BS from my family and peers about the used car thing. But I didn't care, I wanted a car. One day just for ***** and giggles, I went to JUST! look at a Type-R that was for sale. No words to describe it, LOVE at first sight. The dealer let me drive it, and I was more into it. From that day on I changed my mind on the GSR and tried for the R. I got a better job, but I understand the feelings your feeling. Don't let them fog your common sence. It took me a year from that day to find and buy an R, but with a total twist on my life. (in the responsible sense)

The main question is, do you really want to live in fear.
1 stolen
2 payments
3 maintance

I mean if you can live with that, then go for it, but your life will be tight and living from paycheck to paycheck. Sry to be so blunt, but its the truth and sry for this being so long but your not alone. IM if you want so advice .

Good Luck!

-My Advice!!

1. Get a beater.......Pay it off
2. Save up lots of cash........lots......save for a year or two
3. Take good care of your beater
4. When you have enough cash to make the payments on an ITR affordable go get it.
5. Be happy because you now have an ITR and a beater and you payed way less for your R (not as much interest yO!) as well as didn't stress yourself out financially.

-Larkin who wishes he would've done it this way.

oh yeah before getting an R check with insurance: you may find that insurance sucks the ***** Good luck
