Shipping an R overseas? (Hawaii)
Sorry if this has been asked before. But I've been looking at the people selling their R's in the October thread, and there are some that I would be really interested in buying. (I just plan on buying one of course) But the problem is, all these cars are in places such as Cali, and I'm all the way in Hawaii. So my question is, how much exactly would it cost to ship the car down to Hawaii? And also how long would it take?
And a thing for those living in Hawaii, how do those people get RHD cars in? I see them around. I've always wanted a RHD ITR. Is it possible to legally get one down in Hawaii? Especially with all that reconstruction permit crap we have to put up with?

Re: Shipping an R overseas? (Drtydzn12)
I bought my old hatch from CA. When I shipped it over three years ago through Matson, I paid a little over $1000. The car sat at Long Beach for about two weeks before it got shipped because there were so many cars and little space on the ship. Then when it hit Honolulu, it sat for another two weeks before it made it to Hilo. So, it took five weeks total. It wouldn't take too long since you live on Oahu.
The hardest part getting the car over is the transaction. Unless you have someone living close to where the R is, I suggest you fly to check out the car personally. I have family in SoCal and had my cousin check out the car for me to do the transaction. Transaction includes exchanging funds, sign bill of sale, and handing over the keys/title.
You should give Matson, Horizon, or Pasha (I know they ship out of San Diego) a call. Good luck.
