Default Refrigerant oil????

I just had to replace a line in my A/C that had a slow leak, and all the freon leaked out. As I said, I replaced the line, but was not sure wether I had to add more refrigerant oil before adding freon to the system, or if that was only when you installed a new compressor????

If so, how much oil do I add, if not, should I just add the freon to a certain pressure, or do I need to evacuate the system before doing so....I've dropped many motors in before, just never had to refill my A/C, so i'm not completely incompetent, just need some help....

Thanks,
Aj

I'm aware of what the oil is for, what I'm asking is, do you add oil every time you drain the freon and add more, or is it just when you install a new compressor.

The only new compressor I've ever installed was in my truck, and they told me to add refrigerant oil, so I did. I just wanted to know if this was a step you needed to do everytime the system was opened, or if it was just when you installed a new compressor?????

Let me know.......

Most refrigerant comes with 8oz R-134a, 3oz oil in each can. Just start filling, maintaining this ratio. It's pretty hard to put in too much oil as long as you use the pre mixed cans. The best thing to do is use a set of gauges though. This way you can make the delta between the high side and low side is correct so you'll get the best cooling. Usually a Honda's HVAC can get the A/C air down to ~23*F.
