Default Redline MTL okay for tranny?

I've heard some say that Redline MTL isn't heavy enough to protect Honda trannies and I should stick with Honda MTF. Others say their shifting felt noticably much better with the Redline MTL so I was interested in trying it. So what's the real deal with Redline MTL? Pros and cons on ITR tranny?

I would stick with Honda MTL. I tried MTL on my GSR tranny and destroyed it in a couple of months. I guess it was too slick for the sunchros to work properly. I believe most peoplejust use the Honda MTL.

Works good in my transmission. Quiet operation, smooth shifts, and that annoying refusal to go into 1st and reverse is almost gone. No problems so far.

Redline MTL works for me. ~45,000 miles with it now and 2 years of use... speaking of that.. I really should change it out again soon

As for destroying a tranny with it? sorry, but that seems like someone fucked up there..

I use redline MTL in my ITR. I don't have any problems with it. (7k miles with it, so far) I have used it in every honda/acura/bmw I've owned in the last 10 years without problems. I recommend it.

Wow, I guess it has worked for you guys but I put the Redline MTL in my perfect GSR tranny at around 45KM. At about 75KM I started to get some major grind from my gears. I had the tranny taken apart and examined and the technician mentioned he had seen this happen before with other hondas that used redline MTL and that the formulation was not designed for Hondas. Maybe he did not know what he was talking about but everyone I know who races at the track on a regular basis either uses Honda MTL or Motul as others have had similar problems. Maybe the formulation has changed but Honda MTL has worked fine on my ITR tranny for over 65K KM now with no problems so I don't think I will change from it.

Does anyone else on here who races at the track on a regular basis use Redline MTL? How has it performed?

I may not put Redline in my GSR but I will be putting it in my M roadster as I have only heard good things about it in M cars.

I think part of the problem is that when people put redline MTL in their transmissions, they think they can shifter faster/harder then when they had the stock fluids in. not true! you still have to treat the gearbox like the delicate piece of machinery that it is. If you abuse the gearbox, no matter what fluids you are using, you WILL have synchro problems. don't blame the oil for the damage. my .02

I don't think I changed the way I shifted after I installed the Redline MTL. I still shift the same way today with the Hond MTL and have no problems. I wanted to use the Redline MTL because I was starting to race the GSR and was worried about the stock fluid. I never even used the MTL at the track as I started to have problems with my tranny and decided not to race until that was resolved. Since switching back to Honda MTL and racing for 3 years I have had no problems with it so I decided not to change. It's cheap and it works so I have decided to keep using the Honda fluid.

Damn it's that slick huh? Even on Redline's website they say how slick isn't good for tranny oil and how they've perfected the coefficient of friction etc. Hmm, I guess if it was worth $9/bottle everyone's tranny would be running perfect with it.

A friend of mine uses Redline MTL in his ITR. Almost 100k of absolute abuse and not a grind.... I'm a believer.
