Default Personal experience with DC5 Type R

Recently got back from Nagano where I had my internship. For the half semester I was there I met a very nice guy by the name Tai who owned a DC5R. He was also my cubical buddy. We even got to squeeze in a mountain run before I left for the states. Personally, I would stick with my 00 R. I feel that it handles better. for having 220ps, it doesnt feel that much faster than my USDM R. Dont get me wrong, there is more grunt, but stock for stock, the b18c5 rules on the track IMO. I feel the accelaration does not out weigh how the car handels. On the mountain I did feel more body roll than the DC2. I just thought I let you guys know my personal experience with the current R's. One the side note, four door Civic R's will make it to the roads in Japan. I highly doubt well see these beauties in the states.

I might agree that the chassis might be better but if we have to compare K to B series, it would be hard not to choose the K, with its response to bolt-ons and the power that comes in stock form

i highly doubt a newer, more powerful version of a type R wouldnt be worse than a car designed in 1997. that sounds cool though

Well according to the owner of Spoon Sports, he said the of all the k20 chassis, the ep3 is much better balanced than the cl7 accord and the dc5 integra, and that the dc2 is much better than the dc5 chassis. He also states that the best chassis Honda ever made was the ek9! I'll try to post the video sometime soon. Just my 2c.

Yeh, If my Type R had like 300k miles I would swap in a K20 R engine. I think that would be really sweet. Better handling DC2 but the power of K20 R motor. Anyways, I say hands down DC2 handles better. Type R's are not really meant for the 1/4 mile. Ill let my TT Supra do that talking for that. Track days....This is when the Type R shines.

So Mark - was that a stock DC5R you drove? Is your DC2R stock? Or do you have an aftermarket suspension upgrade on your DC2? I am contemplating importing a used DC5R from Japan to replace my 97 Accord....but I'm trying to get various opinions on it. I'm new to the Type R community, so can't say much. My Accord has a Tokico Illumina suspension kit and it handles quite well - especially on the corners we have here in Trinidad. Never taken it to the track, though. Nonetheless - would you say I would be smiling from ear to ear if I swapped to the DC5R? Anyone else's opinion? Thanks.

It's more comfortable and more powerful, but that's about it. I'd still take DC2R>DC5R.

Bearing in mind that I also drive an Infiniti G20 (Nissan Primera) with a GTiR SR20DET swap...? The turbo'd Primera is only running on about 6-7 psi of boost. I'm wondering how the difference will be then?

By the way - I wasn't considering getting a DC2R - regulations doesn't allow importation of anything older than five years.

My brother has a DC5 ITR. I was the one that installed the TODA A2 cam, TODA head gasket and the K pro. It has a TODA header and fujitsubo b pipe and full exhaust. Put out 200whp. Interior is better. If you dont really go to the track I dont think youll notice that the DC2 handles better. Even if you drive hard in the mountains you wont notice it. If the price is ok go for it.

I'm just saying, from a chassis stand point, the DC5 and DC2 are FAR superior than the CD5(Accord).

Cam lobe - thanks for your impression. I am interested in your application of the K Pro on the car. A grand (+) is quite a bit to spend on a mod - but I guess it gives you the flexibility to do wonders with it...Did you do the programming yourself, or someone else (dealer, etc)? I'd llike to know if I can give those stock Evo, WRX, Silvia guys a run for their money.... Don't necessarily wanna win - but just distress them.... What about the laughing gas? Uh oh.....I think Im getting ahead of myself here.....

I dont know if 200whp will distress them! Tuning was done by a tuner. The k20 is pretty hard to tune since guys dont have too much experience here. Too many iterations with the vtc.

Can you pull out the thread where I mentioned the DC5 stock? Maybe you took it out of context.
