Default OT: salvage title...why against it?

yes, it means a few things....like theft, major accident...etc...

my question is, why is it so important?

1) if its theft, it can be replaced.
2) if its an accident, things can be repaired.
3) for those whining about bent frames, todays technology can pull the frame out to factory specs with more precision than most frames have leaving the factory brand new.

...its a title, and when i see people saying "yeah i'll pay 15000 for a integra"...and then when they find out its salvaged offer 2000 dollars, thats just

i find it quite interesting to see. my friend just sold his 1995 supra TT with a rebuilt engine (to hold much more boost) about 3 weeks ago. salvage title, everything mint and clean and up to spec. my friend jumped right on it for 20k....which was a friendly deal.
everyone locally else was offering 8k for the car...which is .

I believe insurance companies will never insure a car with a salvage title for full bluebook value, even if it has been completely restored.

that is reason number one.

The theft recovery cars can be major headaches if wiring has been pulled or broken, super time consuming work and sometimes problems arise during raodtrips... not cool.

that is reason number two.

reason #1: yeah, i can understand but considering these cars are just as rare.... theres a market for selling them.

reason #2: if theft occurred, a proper replacement would be to replace the entire harness if its been cut.... its shortcuts that get people in trouble.

when people hear salvage just like you said.....it very well could mean trouble...but its also a pain in the ***.

dmv wants the car to be brought back to complete stock oem spec in order to register it. that means stock everything back on the car.

resale. yes...you can sell a salvage car for a decent price...but thats after you register and do as i said above. before that? Your putting that burden on the next buyer.

the 98itr i got my drivetrain from originally....was salvaged. i bought the car off my buddy when he got it from the insurance company. that car i believe is back on the streets. the car was sold to a shop with another salvaged itr that had all the parts but just was looking for a fixable chassis. they even had the motor. I was going to..just never checked to see if the carfax came up as the car being on the road again.

its just a pain in the butt...but doable when it comes to salvage titles

Correct me if I'm wrong but even if you can pull the frame back to factory specs, thats now twice the metal has been majorly stressed, and if they heated it at all well......I just don't see how you can expect a chasis to offer the same torsional rigidity....I mean metal inherently loses strength the more it is flexed heated etc....

I'm sure the savalged cars are fine for grocery getters, but when I want to take my ITR to 140mph on the interstate, or take it to a HPDE, I want the confidence of a good car.

I heard on the news once(dateline if that counts) where some guy bought a salvaged corvette and a piece on the front suspension snapped and flipped the car. Not worth the risk to me.

2 of the vehicles in my fleet either have a salvage title or a rebuilt title. Just make sure you fix it properly. It may rattle a bit if it's taken a good shunt, but they're usually fixable.

The insurance issue was brought up, but nobody has mentioned financing a salvaged car. In shopping for my Type-R, I came across one that had a salvaged title. I contacted my credit union, as well as my insurance company. First off, the credit union said that they will only finance a car up to high blue book (which is already a problem with the Type-R, as Kelly Blue Book states the cars are "Classic Collectors" but does not take into consideration supply and demand into the value of the car). Now, the credit union didn't want anything to do with the car (being salvaged), but then said that if they were to finance it, as stated before, it would be for blue book. They estimated the car to be valued at less then half of what the car would be worth with a clean title. Insurance was another problem. We already know about how expensive it is to insure the Type-R, but add a salvaged title to that, and it now becomes more expensive then it is worth. With all that said, I walked away from this car (even though it was extremely clean), and bought one with a clean title

A personal loan (which means the rate is going to be higher in most cases) is the only way you will be able to finance a car with a salvaged title. If you have a lien on a car, the bank will require you to have full coverage. As far as I know an insurance company will NOT allow you to have full coverage on a car with a salvaged title.

Right, it needs to be a rebuilt title. Insurance companies WILL work with that, just not a salvage title, because god only knows what state a salvage title is in.

And yeah, you pretty much gotta pay cash.

My rule on salvage titles is I only buy thefts (no crashes, floods, etc) and the thefts can only be interior and rims nothin like engine, transmission. So far i have had 3 salvage tegs and had no probs.... THe only problem i can say is resale value will suck unless you do a personal sale and the new owner doesn't care
