Looking for DVC2008
Long story short, bought my ITR from Tyler Fong (DVC2004 or DVC2008) with a contract agreement that I will receive the title and registration when the car is paid off. The car has been paid off for more than 5 months and still no answer. He changed his phone number, won't respond to my PM's or any of my emails. The car has no current CA registration tags or plates. It currently has an expired (2005) Nevada plates that i always get hassled for from CHP. Everything Tyler had asked me to do including getting the smog check, and brake lamp inspection and setting an appointment at a local CHP office to verify the out of state vehicle I've done. I drove 2 hours to handle this in person with him at his shop (like we agreed) and he wasn't there. Waited around for another hour, called and txted him and no response.
I'm not here to put anyone on blast or ruin anyones reputation but if anyone here in the ITR community can get a hold of him or know how I can get a hold of him, please let me know. Thanks

Heres the original ad. Note that it clearly says "TITLE IN HAND READY TO TRANSFER". FYI: I did not pay what he was asking for.

Guy seems a bit sketchy, not only does he sell you a salvaged ITR, he's also parting out a COMPLETE (as in needs nothing) ITR piece by piece. Are you sure he actually owned the car he sold you

Re: Looking for DVC2008
I have an appointment with DMV and CHP on Wed so we'll see how it goes. It sucks it had to come to this but it manifested to the point where I feel like I've done everything in my power to give him the benefit of the doubt and now I'm just tired of doing that. The whole transfer of ownership and registration issues has really affected my life negatively. I can't drive the car as much as i would love, I always get hassled by CHP about the plates and my wife hates the car now because we've already paid for it and we still don't have ownership. This topic has been the fuel of many of our fights about finances.
Please, if anyone can get a hold of him please let him know that I'm still looking and waiting for him. I want this situation resolved.

Re: Looking for DVC2008
Thanks for the tip. However, I really want this settled out of court because it's going to cost me more money than I'm willing to waste to see a judge and hire a small claims attorney. But if i have to, then I'll be happy to go that route.

GL, I think it goes w/o saying that you shouldn't ever do this again. Also, are you 100% that the car was his to begin with? There is always the posibility of him not having the title, that's why he took off.

No offense, but just be mentally prepared to pay some stupid tax on this one. I just bought a car w/a lien on it. Myself and the seller marched down to the bank, paid it off, and I made him sign a letter that stated the title would be mailed to me.

Any suggestions or advice about talking to the DMV and CHP about this without getting the car towed?
Again, if anyone can get a hold of him please let him know that I'm looking for him. Thanks.

Re: Looking for DVC2008
When I sold my WRX it had lien on it. The guy financed it through his bank so his bank bought the title from my bank and his bank cut me a check for the difference of our agreed sell price. I would say thats the safest way to do it. Bank to bank and also a clear bill of sale.
I probably wont buy another car out of state again. When I bought my ITR out of state flew one way to pick it up. Seller failed to tell me all the wheels paint were peeeling off, no ABS/ABS light bulb taken out, HVAC lights burnt out, vacuum leak, mostly minor but very annoying things. What to do though I had already bought a one way ticket so seller had me by the *****.

Re: Looking for DVC2008
None taken. When we initially met up to sign the contract he showed me the pink slip to verify that the car was his and the vin on the contract matched the vin on the title. I felt very good about the whole thing in the beginning and after all the payments were paid and smog and brake lamp testing were completed and when it was time to transfer the title he just stopped responding.

Also in most states you simply need a bill of sale to register the car, check w/ the local DMV on this

Re: Looking for DVC2008
wow this really sucks. if you signed everything saying he would hand over the documents after it was paid, then you have the advantage. I think you can even get the car under your name anyways. I dont think you need him. It sucks he flaked on you like that, but I think you can just go ahead and register it under your name. If you do go to court, I think you would be fine without an attorney. Im sure theres a way to summon him, and if hes a no-show, you show all your documents and proof, and you would automatically win. I'm not too sure how that all works, dont quote me. Also, what exactly would you go for if you did go to court?

I always come through its just a matter of time. Things get tricky but Vannock (OP) is always welcome to come to the shop anytime and handle the papers in person. We are friends first always.
The real one to blame is USPS for sure. Paper work has been lost many times through them, I dont know why but it happens.
Im here to answer any questions for those concerned.
