If a 2.5" exhaust is that important for making power on ITR, I would think the Japanese exhaust making companys would come out with some 65mm catback already.

Afterall, each company has spent so much money on R&D to try to come up with an exhaust that make more power than other exhausts in the market, if a 5mm differece on piping size and a bit of modification to the flange would do the trick, I am sure they would do that a long time ago.
With all do respect, I've read this analogy for other parts of the ITR or other vehicles. It all boils down to the money. It will cost more to develop a quiet system that is larger diameter for a car coming out of the factory. There are corners cut on almost every vehicle out on the road. From the use of look alike materials, tire performance, break pad performance vs life, etc. That's why some cars cost $20k or $30k and others are $60k.

My following statements are meant to be more general and not directed to you per say.

As for huge amounts spent on R&D, I'm not sure if that is a totally true statement. I've already seen JDM systems that look like they have parts that are used on other companies systems. Everyone must remember that all these companies aren't building all the products with their names on them. Just like car companies don't manufacturer every part that is in a particulare car. Some parts are outsourced to other comapnies. Why? Because other companies have the expertise to build them and can build them cheaper than a Honda, Ford or Toyota.

I wrote about this before, but let's talk about cam shafts. Why do the wilder ones cost more? If they all start from a single billet/casting the wilder ones require less material to be removed and therefore less machining time but guess what? they cost more. Go figure.

I know of a few exhaust companies here in the states that use the same parts from one supplier but they are just badged with another name. Another example of this are spring manufacturers. Please don't believe that every spring that you buy with a company name on it is produced by that company. It just doesn't make business sense to invest in the capital for the manufacturing equipment. Companies go to spring manufacturer's and contract them to build them certain pieces to their specs which in many cases are very close to other companies specs.

For an OT example, do you think that the food stores like Food Lion, Giant and Krogers make their own dish washing soap.

This is just how it is. I could go on but I think some folks may get upset if they found that they could have purchased nearly the identical parts for less money from another company. Please don't shoot the messenger but some common sense has to be applied to all of the claims out there for products and I don't just mean automotive ones.

I keep telling Dave that if he sold that kit pre-welded up it would have been a no-brainer for me to get it but that extra cost, the strength of the US dollar vs CDN dollar, duty fees, and the lower cost of the Kakimoto R stainless was the reason I went with the Kakimoto 2.5 in. ID design. My friend JP who frequents this board has a Kakimoto R on his ITR and I've heard it live when he was here in Toronto visiting Yoshio and his new Dynapack/ECU re-programming services: It's plenty quiet. When I finally get some rod bearings and rockers and my engine back from the engine builder, I should have a full report for you on the Kakimoto's performance...and what that second resonator does....
