JDM folding rear view side mirrors
Does anyone have these on their car and wired up?
Do you hold down the button until they're in, like a sunroof, or do they automatically just fold into place with one touch of the button, then unfold out with another touch of the same button?
I've got a pair but I've got to know how they work before I wire them up - I'm gonna hook it up to my alarm so that when I arm the alarm, they fold in, then when disarming, they unfold out.

I have 'em in my car.
Just push the button and they will open or close. Notice I didn't say hold the button down. Ben Tang has a set complete with door harness's but he is having some type of problem. Check with him.

Re: JDM folding rear view side mirrors (Honda318dx)
Not just beacuse they're JDM - I don't actually care much about what's JDM and what isn't. I just think the idea of motorized folding mirrors is a cool little gadget. It's just that the Japanese market gets so much nicer versions of the models that we get in the states. They're sleeker, faster, they've got more bells & whistles, and they're just eye candy.

why power folding mirrors? if you've been to japan/asia/anywhere where parking spaces are smaller than the car itself you will understand. myself, i've broken one mirror trying to fight my way out of a commercial back lane, and the other time was vandalism (broke every driver's side mirror of every car parked on my street).

there needs to be a relay because the mirrors won't stop folding.

Re: JDM folding rear view side mirrors (D)
funny? u lost me... the mirrors fold, but when it hits the end of it's swing u can still hear the motors running. this was all done jury-rigged to a cordless drill battery wired to the harness and switch not installed in car.
the only way we could figure out was rig it so u hold the button down and let go when it reaches the end of it's swing. but i don't know how to make them reverse afterwards.
it's very frustrating

Re: JDM folding rear view side mirrors (D)
Couldn't you just use a window roll up module from a car alarm as a relay for the folding mechanism?

Re: JDM folding rear view side mirrors (D)
how many terminal connections at the motor harness?
But I cant find a relay that will do the job before going to the DEI 529T Window Module (which has the limiter).
Although Reverend wouldnt need that relay the way he wants to hook it up, He would just connect the orange wire with diode to one input of the 529 and the other to a aux channel on the alarm

Re: JDM folding rear view side mirrors (TypeRmsm)
529T? or 530T?
i thought the 529 was for sunroof.... 530 is for 2 windows, would make the wiring a bit easier i think...
anyway, i would think the 530T would work, but i'm assuming the OEM switch is not a momentary switch...... know what i'm getting at??
anyway, i have the wiring instructions here for the 530T... shoot me some more details if you can about the oem wiring, and the switch... see if we can troubleshoot this guy...

yeah, not sure what mike's trying to do with that relay there...
but i think the 530T alone would be able to solve your problem, heh, i think.

Re: JDM folding rear view side mirrors (D)
The 529 T is for a sunroof or One window to move up and down. That is all this needs since the Mirrors both run off the same outputs (3 pin connector) Also there is only 1 switch, the 530 T would only be needed if there were 2 different switches and Seperate wiring for the 2 mirror motors.
I have used these different DEI modules in many different applications so lets see if I can explain this one.
On the 529T there are 2 types of inputs
(1) you can use regular window inputs which require a (+) and (-) to activate the relay.
(2) you can use the alarm inputs which only require on (-) input to activate the relay. Also with this setup you can attach the extra wires the 529T has which will make the relay operate like a Automatic window, extending the mirrors all the way open or closed. (that is why the Orange/Black wire and Gray/Black wire are connected together and the same with the Orange and Gray)
D the OEM switch to activate the mirrors is a Momentary switch, It only has 1 Output which is a (-) signal.
The Relay after the switch needs to be a type where after every (-) signal it recieves it will switch to the other output when it recieves a (-) signal again.
This way when its pressed the first time it sends (-) to Input 1 of the 529T and closes the mirrors, When you press the switch again it sends a (-) to Input 2 of the 529T opening the mirrors.

Re: JDM folding rear view side mirrors (TypeRmsm)
my only thinking behind using the 530T: you then have force adjustability for each motor, and it might help out in the long run. but yeah, only one switch for input, so the 529T would def. work
i still don't quite follow your diagram tho....

What do you not understand about the diagram? I will try to explain it.

Re: JDM folding rear view side mirrors (TypeRmsm)
well, dumb question, but, i would think the oem switch would have an additional wire to the supposed 3 pin harness... seems like honda usually pulls grounds to a central local.. so i just have a feeling that there might be honda control module for the mirrors, like the power window module in our driver door.
how much current these motors gonna be pulling? i don't believe the dei units can draw too much. manybe i'm still drunk from last night, ..... ack, looks like it might be 20A fused. should be plenty...
alright, the blue and green from the DEI unit are ground paths, and positive output respectivly, .... i'm just not sure what the deal is from your relay. you planning on using the aux (-) input to the dei unit?
ok, i'm rambling.

Re: JDM folding rear view side mirrors (D)
From what I understand from Ben The 3 pin connector is under the dash (coming in from the door, the passenger mirror is also in the 3 pin connector) both mirrors use the same 2 pins the 3rd is the output signal from the momentary switch.
There should be a Honda Control module but I dont have the JDM ITR Tech Manual.
The mirrors shouldnt draw too much and since the dei units can control windows, sunroofs, actuators etc. it shouldnt be a problem.
The Wire color codes are as follows (straight from the DEI manual)
Blue - Motor side 1
Green - Motor Side 2
Orange - Activation Input Side 1 (-)
Gray - Negative Output through Activation (-)
Orange/Black - Activation Input Side 2 (-)
Gray/Black - Negative Output through Activation (-)
Black - Ground (-)
Red - 12V Positive (+)
White and Brown are not used (For a Window +/- Type Switch)
The reason to Connect the Orange and Gray together is to Make the unit give what they call "Full Motion" So when the unit recieves a (-) signal on the orange wire The unit keeps going until the limiter kicks in and stops the Mirror (once it folds all the way out or in)
Same thing is done with The Orange/Black and Gray/Black for the same reason
If there were 2 Switches one for In and the other for Out then you wouldn't need "Relay #1" But since only 1 switch with one output is used some sort of relay would have to be used.
I am going to build one of these kits tommorow with a Relay I just picked up and I will test it out and see what happens. Glad I have a bunch of 529T's, actuators, and relays sitting around. I might also have one of the units from a Drivers Automatic Window.
We'll see what happens

Re: JDM folding rear view side mirrors (Reverend)
damn, $300 for mirrors?
Sounds like dealer pricing.....
If you guys get the wiring thing figured out, I'm sure there are a lot of jdm fans waiting in line to get some of these (like me)
