I'm out installing some new pedals this morning that require drilling. The brake and clutch pedals are covered by a the rubber OEM pedal covers that are simple to remove. The gas pedal has a hard plastic pedal cover and I can't seem to figure out how to get that thing off...

Does the gas pedal cover even come off? And if so, how?

You literally have to tear the sucker off - I used a set of Vice Grips to pry the top back, then the rest slides off the pedal if you pull down.

Grabbed some pliers and started prying and bending both the top edges. Eventually the whole thing just slid down after the top was released. It was a bitch, but not to bad once I knew where to attack...

Next problem has been finding good places to drill on those pedals. Not many places that have the clearance behind them for the nut, especially the gas pedal...

They are OMP pedals. Very nice, good design...

Good choice Flux, I have OMP's on mine. They do the job nicely and help me to Heal-Toe alot easier. Also great for trail braking at the track. Hell, they make controlling the car with the pedals easier altogether.

Thanks, I finished the install and took it out for a drive and loved how they felt. The heel-toe acrobatics will be much, much easier now...

Any pics of them installed? Where did you finally end up drilling the holes (for those of us who want to install the same pedals)?

Flux - what material is the surface made out of? it doesn't look rubberized... would it be slippery when wet?

The pedals do not have a rubber surface - they are a "raw" aluminum that has some texture on the brake and clutch pedal. It was raining last night while I was out and I had no problems at all with slipping. I'm telling you - I LOVE they way these things feel while driving.

OMP does have these rubber inserts that fit into the pedal holes - but the guy I bought the pedals from said they really don't help anything.

I don't have a digital camera to snap some quick photos, but I'll borrow one and talk some photos that will show the pedals and where I drilled...

Flux, you answered a post of mine last week when I was asking about Razo pedals... Essentially, you recommended the same ones you just installed, and I'd also like to know where to get those OMP pedals!?
I see you got them off some guy instead of retail; do you know where he might have got them from (web)? I tried the OMP website that was posted in that thread to your response, but I couldn't find any pedals on that site!?!

I got the pedals from http://www.ompusa.com. They are the 1000 pedals and are on sale right now for $30.

I called to order and spoke with a guy there that was very helpful.

No problem. The gas pedal doesn't quite cover it (you can't really tell). Mine is at a bit of an angle (very slight) to help with heel-toe action. The gas is a bit tricky because there was not a lot of places to drill.

But it all worked out good...

One last question on this thread; how would it be to screw the OMP pedals into the rubber/plastic pads on the gas/brake/clutch, instead of taking those off, drilling metal, and using bolts? I'm sure the bolts are more secure, but I was thinking if I didn't like them, or wanted to go back to stock, it would be a b*tch to return them to their previous condition...
Has anyone done that? Is there enough rubber material for screws to get a firm grip into?

I don't see how that would really work at all. For one, I dn't think it would really be possible, and two, aI don't think the pedals will be secure that way.

To go back to stock (believe me you never will, pull off the gas pedal cover and you will see it is a 20 cent piece of cheap plastic) you can just unbolt the OMP pedals and slip the OEM covers back on - they will cover the holes.
